Generator Door Stuck Shut June 07, 2009, 01:14:41 pm Yahoo Message Number: 103042Hey Gang, I'm sweltering in Florida and can't always find campgrounds with hook ups. I wanted to check my generator oil, but have been unable to get the door unlocked. It's been WD40'd both into the keyhole (not the problem) and behind it, and I've also tried some dry silicon spray -- no dice. This lock mechanism is the only one exposed to road grime, and if it isn't already on your maintenance list, I strongly recommend you keep it well lubed. Alas, I didn't. In the meantime, can anyone out there give me some ideas for getting the cabinet open, removing the door or unfreezing the lock mechanism? Gratitude and thanksabunch!Lorna, On her way to Ocala

Anytime you do a key hole lock use the graphite spray and you should have better luck. There is probably some moisture in there also. Good luck, John Leach, Prescott.__

John, I do carry/use graphite "spray" and also a dry silicon spray lube. I use WD40, the dirt magnet, only as a last resort! My stoooopidity has to do with not lubricating the mechanism *behind* the lock. The key fits; it just doesn't turn the tab thingy! And yes, since it's now the "wet" season in Florida, there's definitely moisture (and road grime) in that cabinet. Thanks for your good luck wishes!Has anyone ever removed any of the exterior doors?Lorna Sebring, FL Blog: http://uppity-woman.blogspot.com
