Yearly State Passes making full time RV'ing affordable???
Yahoo Message Number: 102291
After reading Andy Baird's (AndyBaird. Com) interesting information on yearly passes in the State of New Mexico on how affordable (Under $5/Night w/ Full Hook Up) camping out in your RV is with a NM yearly pass (albeit only for 3 weeks maximum at any NM state park) I was wondering if there are any other southern states (warmth during the cold winter months) that are affordable. I am in Florida and the only thing a yearly pass gets you in Florida is the entrance paid... Camping fee is extra!

Appreciate any and all comments...

Thanks,

New Mexico has probably the best deal for their state parks of any state I'm aware of.  While many states have an annual pass that pays for the entry fee, New Mexico is the only state I'm aware of that has an annual *camping* pass.
However, Nevada state parks are fairly inexpensive and the ones we've been to are nice.  The fees for camping range from $10 to $14 (with the exception of Big Bend of the Colorado which is $15...this was for the 2008 season, the 2009 season isn't up on the Nevada State Park website).  Those camping fees *include* the daily entrance fee.
Go to http://parks.nv.gov/ for more information.

Louisiana state parks honor the Federal Golden Age Pass with a 50% discount, and their prices are pretty reasonable to begin with.
Interestingly, though, LA state forests do not offer that same discount.

Georgia has a "Friends of the Parks" program that is worthwhile if you're going to be in the state for more than a week or so.  Seniors can get the annual pass for $25.  This pass will waive daily entrance fees, gives you a discount on camping, discount on park store merchandise, one free night of camping (or round of golf), and a free ride on the SAM train.

And don't forget all the federal campsites throughout the south, mainly Corps of Engineers and US Forest Service, but also TVA and others, where you can also use that Golden Geezer card for 50% off camping fees.

Look for city and county-operated campgrounds - many of them offer pretty good rates.   But..their quality can span a great range, from pretty poor to fantastic.
