Verizon coverage area to shrink. http://tinyurl.com/ojbsa4
While it is true that Verizon was forced to sell some recently acquired rural coverage areas, the net effect of their acquisitions is increased coverage.
I started a thread on mifi and asked that discussion on that be done on the proper Yahoo forum. I seem to have started up a wireless discussion. If I have offended the moderators, I ask for forgiveness.

Depends on where you travel.
Some of the rural areas that are going to be changing over from Verizon to AT&T are states we do a lot of traveling in, including Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.  I expect this means that areas where I can now get a Verizon signal on my USB modem (many of these are roaming areas) are areas where I will now no longer be able to pick up a signal once the change-over is complete.
To me, that's a real bummer...and it doesn't help me at all to know that Verizon may pick up increased coverage in other markets, because those are probably markets where we don't travel.

Don, I'm entirely responsible--I was the first person to reply to your post, instead of taking the discussion elsewhere. While it is true that there are places where this topic is covered in depth, it's important enough to many of us that a little discussion isn't amiss. We seem to have pretty much covered the topic for now, so perhaps it's time to move on. :-)

How about we apply this philosophy to the coffee thread the next time it comes around?
