Water Streaks Removal May 05, 2009, 11:37:35 pm Yahoo Message Number: 102133While parked in storage this winter, a leaky gutter on the roof above my LD allowed water to drip on the rear. Even though he was put away Finish Firsted, there are some greyish water streaks that show on the red. I tried some Mequiar's paste wax/cleaner today which did not remove those streaks. Any recommendations? I saw this home remedy for washing and streak removal in TrailerLife today: a mixture of 3 parts water, 1 part Clorox bleach, 1/4 cup Dawn dish soap. Wipe on; rinse it off. If you use it on your LD, I would re-wax those areas you use it on. These also work great for taking marks off walls, floors or floor moldings. They will take marks or spots off when other cleaners will not. Try them on baking pans, cookware or sinks, you will be amazed as I was. Because when you first see one you think this is a waste of money. All my friends are hooked on them. May sound like I get a kick back from company that makes them. Not so just a great product.Good Luck!

I wouldn't want to make a habit of that. The shower pan is gel-coated fiberglass, while the Magic Eraser is an abrasive-impregnated polyurethane sponge. Even with one of the finer grades, you're putting micro-scratches in the gel coat, which are likely to make it get dirtier faster. It's like cleaning a porcelain sink with scouring powder: it looks better immediately, but as the abrasive roughens the surface, it gets dirty faster, leading to a sort of descending spiral of more and more frequent cleanings. Now, if you only use the Magic Eraser a couple of times a year, you probably wouldn't see any harm for awhile, but in the long run it's not a great idea to use abrasives on fiberglass. May I suggest an alternative? Every morning after I shower, I wipe down the shower, including floor, with a California Blade silicone squeegee, then dry it with a chenille mitt. It only takes a couple of minutes to do this, and it completely eliminates waterspots and leaves the shower looking like new.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

I haven't timed them, but I'd estimate about two minutes for the shower and three for the cleanup. (Which, by the way, includes wiping the bathroom sink with the damp chenille mitt that I used to dry the shower, so the sink too is shiny and clean--no water spots or soap film buildup.) Five minutes is a negligible amount of time, and it leaves me with a bathroom that always looks spic and span. In other words, I never have to face the unpleasant chore of cleaning the bathroom, because it's always clean. :-) The only periodic task I do is about twice a year, when I wax the shower pan (not the walls) and the bathroom sink with standard car wax. That job also takes about five minutes, and keeps the surfaces glossy. I do the same for the kitchen sinks and counters about twice a year.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

I should have said, "for cleaning MARKS off the shower floor". We had some soda bottles in a plastic wrapper stored in the LD's shower. When they were picked up, the color from the wrapper had leached into the floor. The Magic Eraser quickly, and gently, took care of the problem. I don't use the Magic Eraser for general clean-ups. We, too, use a squeegee to clean up the shower on a daily basis. Anything that might spill or make a mess, like extra sodas, a gal. of distilled water for the batteries, etc. normally gets stored during travel in the flexible plastic laundry basket that rides in the shower. SOMEONE did not put the soda in the basket! No names, of course.Sharon N.Crossville, TN
