 Just last week, in message 100202, I reported seeing a 55- amp charge rate, provided by the PD9270, going into a 440- amp-hour battery.

The charge rate starts dropping within 15-minutes but does so slowly and stays in the 40+ amp range for a long period.  Using shore power the PD9270 takes about 1/3 the time to recharge the battery when compared to the original 7400 series converter. The battery now uses less water, indicating more accurate float charging.
 Someday I will discharge the battery more deeply to see what the maximum charge rate is.  I suspect it will be in the low to mid 60-amp range.
If the PD9245 performs in a similar fashion, it will provide less than 45-amps.
 My thinking is if you are going to the trouble to upgrade the converter, you might as well get the largest that will fit in the space.

The Flux Capacitor looks promising.

You have WAY too much spare time on your hands.  Maybe you should come to New Mexico and clean Cholula's engine for me!

 Oh, Larry, you don't want to do that--that KaleCo unit is obviously a cheap knockoff. Here's the REAL thing!

 I must admit, though, that KaleCoAuto has some very interesting other products. I particularly liked their exhaust O-Pipe and left-handed metric screwdriver. And their Pilot Wrench ("for fixing the nut behind the wheel") is something that ought to be standard on every motorhome!

Thanks for the tip on a better flux capacitor.
 I use Kale all the time. They are my main source of muffler bearings.

John, I'm not sure why you are relocating the converter - it's easier and safer to upgrade 12V wiring if necessary than add a new 120VAC run and connection.

Steve, my PD9260 will be arriving in a few days.  Like John, I was thinking of locating the converter very close to the battery bank.  My thinking is I only need a couple short, heavy wires from the converter to the battery.  The AC wires (AC outlet to converter) could be a simple extension AC cord since the AC current is so low.  What am I missing?
 BTW, I have no intention to run a separate DC wires from the converter to the LD electrical panel.

Sam, do you mean you intend to run an extension cord from the AC socket by the TV to a socket wired into the converter? Or, are you laying a run of Romex from the converter to the breaker panel of the AC distribution box?

I assume you mean you are planning to use the existing 12V wiring to the fuse panel to wire back in the circuits operating lights, etc. Bear in mind that you can have many circuits in operation at once - fans, lights, water pump, etc. The converter has to supply all that DC current now over a much larger distance of rather limited gauge wiring, which could cause enough of a voltage drop to see a difference in performance. No matter where you locate the converter, voltage drop at 12V comes into play if you don't upgrade the wiring. In addition, if mounted where exposed to weather and the batteries' acidic fumes, corrosion on the circuit board will accelerate deterioration and failure. The converter is slated for indoor installation only.

Steve, the PD9260 arrived this morning.  I have just finished installing it.  I have it installed at the same place you installed your dual battery bank.  From there it's only 3 feet down to my battery bank underneath the floor, same location.  For now, I just run a short 5 foot extension cord from the AC socket to PD9260.  Eventually I might run new AC wire behind the wall or underneath the floor (but protected inside my battery compartment) to that same socket for cosmetic purpose.

Yes, I am using the existing 12V wiring.  I have not done any modification to it.  However, my battery banks is now about 5 feet closer to the LD panel than before.  Yes, I become more and more aware of the voltage drop in 12V wiring.  All the DC outlets are pretty much useless.  As soon as a load in introduced at these outlets, the voltage drop by about 1 volt!  But with an small inverter right next to new converter, I will probably never need those outlet again.
