PC Software to View GPS POI
Yahoo Message Number: 100107
Am looking for a PC program that will show the western camp ground POIs on a map.  We want to use the comma-separated file that has been discussed earlier on the forum.
My wife and I just purchased a 2005 26.5' MB and are ready to start using it on weekends.  Karen retires later in the year and then we will roam more freely.
We also just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 780 for our trips.
Any suggestions on PC software? Also, my daughter, grandkids and I will be going to the Morro Bay GTG on the 27th.  We have reservations for site 60.
Thanks, Lance

Hi Lance, I'm no expert, but this link might help us figure it out.  It discusses using Google Earth to make. KML files and then saving it as a .CSV file.

I'm thinking that you could do the reverse of what I did yesterday with the UNESCO POI's.  I took the info from a KML file and copied/pasted it into an Excel file, saved it (.xls) and then resaved it as CSV file.
That POI-Factory above probably has directions for how to do it.  I'd think Google Earth is the answer, we just have to determine how to get the POI's into it.

Of course, I've been

Lance,
This is not likely to be exactly what you want, but given an item from the POI list, lets say it was:

-73.107422,41.653076,Black Rock State Park, CT

Do a "Copy" of the line.  With your browser, go to:

http://maps.google.com/maps

Paste the POI line into the box next to the Google Map logo and hit Enter.  The map of that item should appear.  Only the coordinate portion of the POI entry is used b Google.

Everyone please forget my previous post about not being able to find Ted's custom POI's.
They were there, but I had to touch the 'Custom Poi's line to bring them up.
Thanks Ted for your good work on these.  I found some COE sites near to us that I did not know existed.  I'll have to get the LD out and check them out.
