Our grand kids have managed to try and use the slide as a handle a number of times and I have become an expert in putting it back in. For us, having the slider clear gave us the added view we wanted; however if you do figure out how to remove the fixed piece, I'd be interested.I believe the fixed panel is part of what keeps the door solid, it might be structurally important to to door (or not, what do I know?).Kate http://cholulared.blogspot.com http://www.cholulared.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/83282349@N00/Want to find us? I had two pieces of 1/8" polycarbon cut slightly larger than the screen so they overlapped it. The top piece has rounded corners to conform with the door frame. Then I drilled holes in the metal of the door frames and using metal mirror clips ( the same 1/8" size) rested the bottom of the polycarbon on the center ledge of the door and affixed two mirror clips on both sides and on the top of the door frame. I also bought a new plastic slider. Now when I am in a colder area I have a storm door, and when it gets hot I remove the polycarbon and have a screen door again. Make sure when installing the mirror clips that you have enough clearance to move then sideways, so you can take out the polycarbon panels. I store these panels behind the drivers seat on my TK. Polycarbon is less prone to scratch if you have pets. Beverly Brownian Motion 2007 23.5 TK

I can see screws on either edge of the door frame but not sure what they will do. There are two on each side. Also there are two pop rivets that appear to hold the center aluminum piece on the fixed panel.Jim
