"My factory mounted 2001 solar panels are mounted about 1.5" above the roof."
Here's the key question for those who say their panels are mounted above, rather than on, the roof: can you lift up the panel and gain access to the wiring junction box on its underside *without removing any sealant*?
AM Solar's standard mounts allow this by simply loosening two of the four knobs that hold the panel to its roof-mounted brackets. I have yet to see a factory-installed solar panel from Lazy Daze (including the ones on my 2003) that permits this, but maybe I'm missing something. :-)

In a word, Yes, by removing the screws that fasten the brackets to the edge of the panels.
