Jim and Donna,

As others have noted, you'll probably find your RV style evolving as the first year or two pass.  As for guides, I don't put too much stock in them, although I do have 2-3.  I have a Woodall's, Wright's Guide to Free CG's, and a really good Corps of Engineer Guide.  But I find I get most of my information from the internet - there are some great web sites for public campgrounds, each state has a state parks web site that is very useful, there are good sites for the Corps of Engineers, TVA, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, etc.

If you're looking for private CG's in a certain area, just Google the name of the town + campgrounds.

And..you can find some hopefully useful info about some CG's on my web site - www.wxtoad.com http://www.wxtoad.com/>  . We post pictures and notes on all the CG's we visit in our travels.  I think there are over 135 CG's included.

Enjoy your LD and have some great travels !!

What is everybody's favorite campground guide?

Here is a link to the newest version of Camping with the Corps of Engineers as sold on Amazon - http://tinyurl.com/chbrh8

We have the 2005 version and have used it a few times.

Happy Travels!

This one is my favorite: http://store.cottagepub.com/cwtc.html
While there are others, I haven't found them to be as good as the above.
If you prefer a downloadable version, the 6th Edition is available at http://ebooks.ebookmall.com/ebook/205668-ebook.htm for $12.00.

Garry,

The one I have is "Corps of Engineers Campground Guide" by Fay & Judy Howrey.

Published by:

Howrey Publishing

PO Box 220

Dover ID 83825-0220

www.angelfire.com/biz/campguide

It's a spiral-bound book with full information about each COE campground: number of sites, hookups, facilities, season, location.  The only thing it doesn't include which would be helpful is coordinates.  But then again, you can use my spreadsheets for that .

The COE web site is at: http://tinyurl.com/dwpza

At the risk of repeating information that has been posted before, here are a few other sources I find very useful for public campground information:

Tennessee Valley Authority: http://tinyurl.com/anmccd

US Forest Service Official Site: http://tinyurl.com/b6n7zr

US Forest Service (Forestcamping.com): http://tinyurl.com/bb29qy

Public Lands Information (western states): http://tinyurl.com/d3owum

National Park Service: http://www.nps.govhttp://www.nps.gov/>

If you know the name of the national park, monument, etc that you're interested in, simply add a slash and the first 4 letters of the name after the URL.  Eg, for Acadia NP, go to www.nps.gov/acad.   If the name has two words, add the first 2 letters of each word, as in Devils Tower National Monument, use www.nps.gov/deto.

Bureau of Land Management: http://tinyurl.com/as3g9q

Bureau of Reclamation: http://www.usbr.gov/recreation/

Military campgrounds: http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/

In general you have to be active duty or retired military to use these facilities.

I've found a lot of great county parks by googling the "name of county + campgrounds".  Same for city campgrounds.

On our round-the-USA trip last year, I don't think we stayed at more than 6 private CG's in 8 months and 12,000 miles.

Think "Public"  !!
