There has been a lot of info and discussion of solar panels lately.  Is there anyone out there who is using wind generators?  I have seen several on-line which generate power with as little as a  7 mph wind and it looks as if you could get into wind generation for under $1000.  This might be an additional source for charging batteries, esp. on cloudy days and at night.  Any thoughts or experiences?

Some thoughts.

Sunlight is generally more available than wind.
Solar, once installed, does not require any effort other than occasional cleaning of the panels.
A wind turbine would need to be stowed while driving and then deployed at the campsite. How and where would you store a wind generator while traveling? Wind generators should be high off the ground, in clean air, to maximize their output. This would require some type of small tower.

Wind turbines need consistently windy places to produce significant amounts of power.
Consistently windy places usually are not the most pleasant places to camp.

Sailboats are better candidates for wind turbines than RVs IMO.

Wind generators also produce noise. Not just the noise of the blades turning, but noise and vibration along the pole, guy wires, and ground.

Brian Brawdy is using a wind turbine on his Lance camper. Check out his web site at:
