Question about using the coach battery to charge/jump the chassi

On my 1989 22ft RL I have a black push button on the dash below the heater controls and above the hood release.   The previous owner said that it was to supply energy from the coach batteries to the starting battery.   There is no mention of this in the owner's manual I have for the rig.
 I've never had to use it and really don't know if that is what it is for or not.   Maybe one of the other previous owners put it in?
