Anyone istalled a analog to digital convertor box on the Sharp tv in the 30 ft. IB?  Where did you put the box?

Well, we have a 30 TB, but our entertainment center is the same as yours (I think, ours is a 2005).
We have the 2 shelves above the TV, with a VCR/DVD immediately above the TV and our digital TV box and the Analog box on the top shelf.
It's a tight fit, but they both work there just fine.

I have an entry on my blog about the installation (although a friend did it for me, so it's not too technical).  If you want, you can read about it here

While we're on the subject, I HATE that the remotes don't work through the smoky LD glass, anyone replaces it with anything else?

Thanks, Kate. Ours is a 2005 also. Guess I need longer cables to get the box up to those shelves where we have the DVD player, etc.  I agree on the frosted glass.

Whoa there Kate...

I installed my Artec converter behind the smoky glass of my entertainment center ('04 30'IB) and my remote works just fine. You do have to have a direct line of sight between the remote and the converter though!

NONE of my remotes (satellite TV, DVD/VCR, or converter) works with the glass closed.  I talked to Steve about this and he said some of them worked and others don't, but he didn't know why.

I can tell you, it's a major pain.

I'm thinking about removing the glass and replacing it with a wire mesh or some loos weave fabric.

Kate,
There are IR repeaters designed for situations where the equipment is hidden from view (like a solid door entertainment cabinet).  You would have to mount the IR receiver somewhere visible to the remote.  Many of these systems will work on 12V.

Art,

Thanks, I considered this, but it just seems like it should work without ANOTHER piece of electronics.
I seem to be a bit of a geek and have so many, I'd rather add another toy rather than something like this.

Oh well, at least I have options.

Is everyone enjoying Christmas Eve?

I hope so, Joy to All.

One way to see your remote is with a camera. Many cameras are sensitive to the infrared LED light that the remote puts out so you could aim and fire the remote into your camera and see if you see the light then do it through the glass to see if your glass is blocking the light.
The best way to keep a remote working strongest is to take it apart and clean the keypad and circuit board with something like alcohol. That's how we fixed our remote that wouldn't trigger through the glass. Now it works fine assuming the batteries are adequate.
Here are two pictures of our remote firing, one with a Hoya 76 infrared filter and one without. This is an excellent way to also check your camera's sensitivity to infrared.
The Olympus C2100 is one of the better cameras to use for infrared photography and for any photography for that matter. That's what I used here.

Michelle,
Thanks, but our remotes have not worked since the day we picked it up at the factory.
I just think we got one of the doors that won't let the remotes shine through.

Hi Kate,
Then it's likely not the cabinet. You must have tested them with the doors open?

Yes, the remotes work fine with the door open, it is the glass that is blocking the signal.  Steve says he has heard this from other people, so I have to believe that they probably got a batch of darkened glass that has something

Greetings, Kate,
Our '02 30'TB has wire mesh, rather than the smoked glass. We have no problem with the remotes.  It should be pretty straight forward to swap the glass for wire mesh, if you decide to try that.

Peace!
