Suspicious dampness! Help!
Yahoo Message Number: 97993
Hi All!
Here I am camping near Austin, TX on my way further south. The edge of the carpet, where it joins the kitchen tile, is quite damp in 2 places.
This is on a 26'MB. The edge runs between the entrance & the hinge side of the bathroom door.
I can't figure it out. There's no dripping from above. I just got the rv out of storage last week in MI & made my way down here & I would have thought if there was any winter damage it would have shown up earlier on the trip. I did winterize it.
Is it possible that the very high humidity that's developed today due to dense fog & a jump in temps from 40s to high 60s could have anything to do with it?

I'm hoping someone will have some ideas & give me some direction.

thanks, Pat

Pat,
Unfortunately, it could be the water pump. Just last week, after using the pump, we had some water running on the floor where the carpeting and tile meet at the corner of the bathroom door (hinge side) on our MB. There was also some moisture under the bathroom sink area.
Looking at the pump location, there was moisture on the floor under the pump although the pump housing and connections felt dry. Since we're presently in Las Cruces, NM, humidity isn't the problem. We're currently hooked to a water supply so it's not a major concern right now but based on others' pump problems, I see a new pump in our immediate future.
I suggest you look under the sink area where the pump is located (access is via the velcro-ed panel, on the floor, under the sink cabinet) and see if there is sign of moisture and/or water dripping from the pump or its fittings.

Hi Pat, I agree with Bill Pratt. We had the same problem and went to a small RV repair tech. He looked at it for a moment and said, "I bet it's the water pump." Sure enough, after unscewing the panel under the sink, water was about an inch deep surrounding the pump which had seeped out to the carpet. He promptly cleaned out the water seepage, and replaced the pump. No problems since then (a year ago). As an aside, I chose the less expensive replacement pump (Sureflo) at first but it was just too noisy. I spent a few more dollars to get the same type of pump as before (about 75$) and the noise level decreased markedly.

Good luck with the solution. David 1998 MB LD 1998

Hi Thanks everyone!!! I investigated the water pump area & it was dry as a bone! So did some more thorough evaluation, went through the manual, etc. for the toilet, etc. The water is being sprayed out the back of the toilet when it is flushed.
Not a lot of water, however guess since I hadn't noticed, it accumulated & then ran along the edge of the carpet.
So now, there is a heavy towel stuck in behind & to the side of the toilet & I have the first available appt. on the 29th at Mission Camping World. I'm resisting the urge to fiddle with it & make a bad situation worse.
Thanks for all the suggestions!!! And Merry Christmas! Pat

"The water is being sprayed out the back of the toilet when it is flushed."

Pat, the water fitting in back of the toilet is a friction fit--it pushes into an opening in the back of the bowl. It's possible that it has loosened up. If so leaning over the back of the toilet and pushing the hose fitting straight in (toward the front of the bowl) may solve your problem. It can't do any harm, so it's worth a try.

We also had a leak which resulted in replacing our water pump on our '06 MB after only 10 months.  Then a few months later, we had another leak exactly where you described, which turned out to be a loose connection at the "O" ring. Fortunately, a plumber was camped at the next site and tightened everything up for us. Connections can loosen as you travel.
