"I love that whole area -- so much to explore, lots of lakes, rivers, Scenic Byways.  If there was a Kaiser facility in Eugene, I'd consider settling in the Oakridge/Westfir area in a heartbeat!"

We spent December 2005 through August 2006 in the Eugene area, foraying over to Oakridge and Westfir on many occasions.  There is so much to photograph in the area, that it would take years and years to do it any sort of justice.  The covered bridges come to mind first!

When we were there, we marveled at what wondrous things could be seen within an hour or two in any direction . . . in short, we loved it.

Time passed, and we spent another five months in Sequim, Washington, and fell in love with that area, too, almost, but not quite, buying a house in Sequim.

In retrospect, neither area would have been suitable for those of us addicted to sunshine.  Although we weathered the first winter in Eugene quite well, using the rain to allow us to stay indoors and read/use the computer, when we returned there in December of 2006, and the rains started, we couldn't get out fast enough.
Apparently one rainy season is satisfactory, but after that, it is troublesome - at least it was for us.  Sequim, while sunnier on the whole, was fairly remote, and everyday life would have been less varied.

When all was said and done, we had decided that we would continue to make our homebase in sunny, sunny Arizona, and go to Oregon and Washington during the summers and falls in our motorhome.
My husband's cancer has put the skids to that plan, but we still hope to get up there again this coming summer.  Two plus years off the road is way too long; we are anxious to get out again.
