Where to have a RV evaluated? October 30, 2008, 08:45:10 pm Yahoo Message Number: 97003For those of us who are looking at older LD's and may also be first time RV'ers .... I sure can appreciate the advice to have the unit carefully gone over by an expert before buying. That is great advice and I have no problem with spending some $ up front to ensure I am not getting in over my heard but ...... from what kind of places can one get those expert opinions and inspections ?Anymore our cars run for years with little more than oil changes and I have no clue who is qualified to give an opinion on the state of an RV. Thanks Mike Mc

Your trusted independent auto service facility, or one recommended by someone you trust, is the place to have the chassis an drivetrain evaluated. The coachwork you need to inspect carefully for signs of leakage, soft spots in the roof or walls, sagging, separations, looseness, etc. The appliances should ALL be operated for some period of time, as they are as or more expensive to replace as domestic versions. Verify the plumbing works, all tank gauges, antennas, AC and DC power outlets, generator, converter, and anything else you can find. Make certain the fridge works on ALL modes, switches properly when it should, and has been turned on a day before you inspect so it will have adequate time to reach operating temps. Then, depending on age of the LD and your budget, factor in thousands more $ in early-on repairs when you present your offer.Steve
