Motorcycle carrier for rear of MH

Hi Greg. Check out these web sites: motojack and mototote. I bought a used mount that is similar to mototote, but made by a shop in Col. It's aluminum so lighter, but I'm not sure how durable it will be. LD says hitch can handle 350#. I'm at 250 for the bike plus about 40 for the carrier. I don't expect this to affect the handling much. Time will tell. I do know I need to be careful not to drag (the carrier, not the coach) on steep driveways.

The motojack looks like a better rig, but available only on special order. I may check it out some time.

I'm off for a week at Jed Smith, then a few days with SKP's in McArthur Calif (near Lassen)

You cannot believe the things you can find if you start looking. In the back corner of my local independent Motor cycle shop, I found a carrier to go on the back of my new to me LD.

It dosnt have any marks on it but it appears to be factory made. It attaches to both frame rails with a box sort of like a reciever hitch. The rack comes off the right mount and swings to the left. THe swing pin is off center and the rack lowers as it swings untill the end of the rack is ground level at 90 from the carry position. Run the bike up, strap it down and then swing it into place across the rear of the LD. No Lifting!

It seems to carry my 350 lb Yamaha 500 without strain.

I'll take some pictures and try to post them so you can see what I mean

There is a real great carrier by overbuilt that will lift a Harley in to carry position, but it costs $1600.

I also called the factory and got information on how to build a canoe rack. It has to be attached to the screws that hold the corner moulding on the roof. That is my next chore.

Last week was our maiden trip in the LD. Went to the Oregon Coast. Almost 700 miles. 8.7 going over and 10 mpg coming back. Coming back I put cruise control on 55 mph and left it there. Only did 65 mph on the freeway.
Pushing air costs gas.

Great trip, unit did everything we wanted it to.
