Panama caravan blog (Bills blog & Matt's dancing)

Okay, so we couldn't convince Barry Barnes to blog for us, but the one in his caravan (I think same caravan) to have engine trouble is blogging and it is fantastic.

It is an excellent example of how to have a good time no matter what befalls your rig.  I figure this is something I need to know how to do when traveling with Ciao Baby!

Here are some favorite quotes of his to share with you:

Feb. 14 "Although our presence here was due to being literally stranded by the roadside in the jungle for two weeks (so far), it has been one of the best times of our lives. Everyone should be so lucky as to have such an experience."

Feb. 15 (great pic of Bill at the laptop in a hut): "Bill at -the office- Via our Datastorm internet satellite and wireless router, we provided WiFi to the hut and other visitors. Normally the only communication possible here is cell phone, and you have to stand out in the street to get a signal."

I love how they went to the local school and donated school and medical supplies that they'd collected from the church ahead of time.
And how about the dinner party thrown for them the night before they were to leave Guatamala!:

"16th Feb 2008:  A Barbeque to Remember" and as they were leaving, "It was genuinely sad to say goodbye to the Galvez family and the other friends we had known here."

Now I want to go to Guatamala!

(Who has time to get anything done with all this RV vicarious living?  Too fun!)

Here's the blog of the Switzerland couple (whose dog Bill & Annette watched) who had a converted LandRover for an RV:

Cool idea! Feb 18:

""Wow... why didn't I think of that?". They will dig a hole outside the shop, pull the motorhome over it, drop the engine, then pull the motorhome away." Turned out they didn't do it, but points for creativity.

Did you know?  "There is a large Chinese population in Belize, so Chinese restaurants everywhere."
If you click on Bill's "Our Movies" and listen to the Howler Monkeys- wow!  Pretty scary sounding!  I'd better not show that to the kids.
And while I'm on the blogs of those running around the world, did you see the Matt Harding movies that he put together- made him famous because they are so interesting.  Very short clips of him DANCING this hilarious jig at sites all over the world, including one on the rock 1000 meters suspended in the air between mountains.  I promise that you'll love them:

They are in reverse order.  Start on the bottom with his first video that he threw together (2005), then the one Stride Gum paid for his round-the-world travels (2006), and the Outakes one is just funny (2006).  They are pretty amazing for the sights alone.

Enjoy!

Thanks for nuthin, Tessa.  :-)  I just "lost" an hour reading blogs instead of working.  That's quite a contrast in travel styles: huge diesel pusher vs pop-up Land Rover.  The main things is both couples are on the road and enjoying whatever comes their way.

Google translations are almost always a kick to read.  Can someone translate this phrase more accurately?
"Many came again to the airport, where we in our Starbucks executioner meal..."

Original: "Viele kamen nochmals zum Flughafen, wo wir im Starbucks unsere Henkersmahlzeit genossen ..."

this is what babelfish came up with: Many came again to the airport, where we enjoyed our Henkersmahlzeit in the Starbucks
Henkersmahlzeit the last meal of one to death condemned person before their execution called. It is usually taken on desires condemned consideration. In the USA up to tobacco and alcohol every other culinary benefit is tried to make possible for the condemned one.
Experiences from the penal institutions of the USA show that only of to death condemned a small number on its so-called load Meal do without.

Guess they were saying they were having their last meal at Starbucks....
