Towing LD

For those that have had their LD towed or for those that know the proper procedure for towing, is it really required to disconnect the driveshaft, as it states in my 2002 LD Manual?  If so, for the ones that had their LD towed, who did the disconnect--you, tow driver or others?

I searched the archives and couldn't find anything on this.

We have a 2001 RK, and indeed, we had to disconnect the driveshaft when we had it towed. We were 50 miles outside Barstow when we had our problem, and were towed all the way back to town. The tow truck driver did it, and then the shop put it back together again. It has never given us any problem, so I assume it's all back the way it should be.

BTW, I don't know why you have to disconnect it, and I certainly wasn't happy having to do it. I envisioned all sorts of disasters, but none happened.
