Larry, I was looking through your awesome improvement pictures

and noticed your wardrobe clothes bar that replaces the metal bar with holes in it:

What a brilliant idea!  I cannot tell you our irritation level with wrestling clothes hangers out of that thing.  While I have stacked drawers in there, having hanging clothes is also an important (to us) RV luxury and your solution is terrific.

Are you enjoying the clothes bar as it is?

Do your clothes slide around while traveling?  I read the tip that you can cover the bar in corregated plastic if there is a need to stop the sliding, but doubt that is necessary (particularly with all the stuff in my wardrobe)
Do you have to use any special Camping World hangers to keep them on the bar?  (I doubt it, but I do wonder when I see those things what purpose they might serve.)
Finally, what diameter bar did you use (I'm sure you figured out what was best- so no need for me to reinvent the wheel!)  :)

Thanks, Tessa

Tessa, I really like the closet bars with holes in them. We use those flat, flocked hangers with swivel metal hooks at the top that come in a package of 5 or 10, depending on the store.  I've gotten them from a couple of different stores, including Bed, Bath & Beyond (in The Woodlands).  We have no problems putting the hangers in or taking them out, and none have ever fallen while traveling.  The flocking helps keep things from slipping off the hangers.  In my closet, a couple of hangers have three or four pair of slacks on one hanger.
In Bob's closet his hangers only hold one pair each.  Works for us.
Your year LD may have a different type of closet bar than our '02, though.

Tessa
We changed the clothes bar, in my wife's wardrobe, because she could not easily get hangers into the slots when the wardrobe was nearly full. With the bar installed, she is able to pack as many clothes as possible into the small area.
If you know my wife, that's a lot of clothes.

"Do your clothes slide around while traveling?"
See above. There is never enough empty room for anything to slide around.
If sliding is a problem, you can cover the bar with a piece of foam pipe insulation.
With five occupants, I cannot imagine your closets ever being empty

"Finally, what diameter bar did you use"

The hanger is designed to use a 1 5/16" rod.
I found that a piece of 1" schedule 40 PVC water pipe fit fine (about 1 ΒΌ" diameter) and will not rust or splinter. The rod and holders are available at any home center

We also added a hanging rod in the shower. It gets used for raincoats and other wet things.
Make sure to use a brass or plastic rod holder, plastic pipe and stainless steel screws to prevent rusting.

"Thanks for the info on the clothes hangers- that would be much easier than installing a bar.  Are these the same hangers:"

Yes, those are the ones we use.

"I see they also have the special 3-pair pants flocked hangers at BB&B.  Is that what you use in your closet?"

No, we just use the single bar hangers.  I fold the slacks and pile them on top of each other.  The hangers with several bars would hang too low in our closets.  In full-length LD closets, they would probably work well.

"I uploaded a picture of our metal clothes bar under "Ciao Baby" folder.  Is that kind used on more recent rigs?  Also, see the shoe shelf- Is that an aftermarket add-on?"

Thanks for the photo, Tessa.  Yes, that is the same metal bar with holes in it.  It is mounted on the ceiling of the closet.  There is no shelf above it.  The closets, one at the foot of each bed, are about half-length, with separate drawers below...three on the driver's side; two, with a door to a large space at floor level, below the drawers on the passenger side.  When you open the closet doors, there is a space about a foot deep below the door opening.
That is where we store bags or boxes of stuff.
Our shoes are stored in pantry bags I cut in half and mounted on the forward wall of each closet.  This is what they look like:

The over-the-door storage unit has metal bars in hems at the top and bottom, to stabilize it.  I cut the unit in half, leaving a bit more on the bottom half, removed the metal bar from the bottom, made a new hem pocket at the top, slipped the metal bar in and mounted them with snaps at the top, and Super Lock at the bottom corners.  Each double pocket is quite stretchy and holds quite a bit.  It's worked for six years.

Hi Larry, It's hard for me to tell from the photos - what screws did you use to attach the clothes bar bracket

"what screws did you use to attach the clothes bar bracket in the wardrobe?"
I'm not Larry, but I can tell you what I've used for mounting items in the wardrobe and elsewhere: 1/2" long #6 screws. They grip well, but are short enough that they don't penetrate very far, so the risk of damaging anything on the other side of the wall is minimal.

Thanks Andy! That's what I'll use. I tried an expansion closet bar but it keeps falling down when we drive. A more permanent solution is needed. I have hanging storage containers w/drawers from Ikea that fit perfectly but need the bar to attach to.
