Requesting design changes
Yahoo Message Number: 89034
I ordered a new MB in January and wanted a simple change (just laying an extra wire in a bundle that was already there), which led to a conversation with Steve.  He says that he personally has to make the changes, and particularly these days when he is also running the business, he just doesn't have the time.  He made the point that it takes more effort to make the factory builders understand what is needed and make sure they have it right than do it himself.  He said that in the past he was able to make time for some changes, but that for now, those days are over.
I had to agree with him.  He had just come out of a long meeting with the insurance representative, which was something Ed would have taken care of in days past.

Sounds to me like Steve needs to train someone to do this *other* job, so he can concentrate on running the company.
I realize there are some people who think that if THEY don't do the job, it won't be done right, but one thing I learned early on in my working career was to train the people under me to take my job...that way, I was free to move up to the next position on the rung.
Obviously, Steve is already at the top, but trying to do two jobs at the same time means that neither job is done at peak performance.

Hello Gus:

I also Steve for a small change to the wiring.

Here was Steve's reply:
Sorry, I just don't have any extra time for special projects as I am working to get everything changed over for 2008 models which will include new advertising, manuals etc.

Too bad Steve ran Tim off, he had a good second there.  Sometimes people just can't delegate at all, I think Steve is one of those types.
