Central America Trip

We are 20 days into our 78 day trip to Panama and back.  We are currently in Guatemala and crossing into Honduras on Monday.  The LD has been a great vehicle for the trip.  My only problem with it so far has been the awning which would not latch properly after using it one time in Mexico.  I have plastic ties holding it closed, and will not use it until I get back to Texas and have it repaired.  It is not a big problem as we don't use the awning much any way.

We have been drinking the local water passed through 3 filters and treated with boating purification pills (or 4 filters when we fill the Breta filter pitcher that we keep in the refrigerator).  We have a sediment filter, a charcoal filter, and a sub-micron filter that we use.  Most of the people are using bottled water only, but we have had no problems so far.
The gasoline has been more expensive than expected, about $4-$5 after we left Mexico, and the mileage has been worse than expected (possibly because of the low speeds?  There must be an optimal speed for best mileage, and we have been averaging about 30-35 mph).
I won't keep up with the group postings until we get back to Texas in April, but thought you would be interested.

It's a great trip so far, and I can recommend Adventure Carivans.
