Retrofit Outside Shower January 18, 2008, 01:44:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88541I'm the proud owner of a new-to-me 2000 26.5MB coach. It was not purchased with the outside shower option. Can this be added to the coach now?

The outside shower unit is a large plastic box with a hinged, lockable lid. It has holes in back to permit mounting inside it a faucet assembly identical to the one in your current bathroom shower. The hose and showerhead are also identical; they store inside the box by wrapping around the faucets. So first you'd have to cut a hole almost a foot square through both outer and inner walls. After removing the insulation, you'd frame in the space to fit the shower unit. You'd have to tee off the hot and cold water lines under the sink and connect them to the faucets you installed in the outside shower enclosure.Once the outside shower unit was in place, you'd have to very carefully seal up the whole business, to prevent any possibility of water leaks around the edges of the unit. And if you winterize your rig, bear in mind that this is one more thing you'll have to deal with.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

We have one in our '02 30' and I don't think we've ever used it and I haven't heard many (if any) folks say they use theirs enough to pay for it as an option. It was standard on the 30'.Chris Horst(Snowed in in Big Sky, MT)

We already have a nice shower, inside the LD I added a tee into a pressurized water line, under the water pump and then plumbed it into an exterior storage bin, next to the entry door. I used a kitchen sink type hose and sprayer and added a brass shut-off valve. This is a much easier installation than adding an exterior shower and does not require cutting into the side of the MH or dealing with the hot and cold hard-lines. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/sets/72157602104741015/Larry

Is there anything left to add to your LD? What's next on your list?Chris

One hose attaches to the RV, and I attach another hose with a spray head on it to other side of the "Y." I then have an "outside shower." Lay the hose in the sun and you've got warm/hot water for washing down kids, pets, sandy feet, cars, toys, whatever. Quite lo-tech, but it works just fine. If there's no water at the site, I place a square Rubbermaid dishpan full of of water by the door to wash sand or dirt off us. YMMV.Jeanne

Re: Retrofit Outside Shower Reply #7 – January 21, 2008, 06:58:57 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88666....ideas are brilliant in their effectiveness and simplicity -I'd not have thought of them!...appreciate both Andy and Larry providing more complete information on how the answer could, in fact, be "Yes". Thanks for sharing, Tessa in TX ....water at the site, I screw a "Y" splitter at the hose bib. ....no water at the site, I place a square...dishpanof water by the door ....Tessa - Our last SOB we never opened or used the outside shower - we do the "Y" spigot splitter all the time & run the extra hose under coach using a green house hose connector with shut-off so access and shut-off is near coach door with a shorter hose there, sounds complicated but is not - Another idea for the dry camping - there are those solar shower bags can get at sports supplies or could use one of the large laundry soap jugs with the spigot spout and set by door or picnic table - Installing an exterior wall mounted unit is just asking for another place to leak, cold/hot gets inside coach - A simple remedy is the easiest & with your imagination you'll have a portable outside shower designed in no time with a fancy canopy and spa treatments too ;o)Virginia rainy, chilly central Texas Starr & Midnight Roadie http://travelingstarr.blogspot.com/
Re: Retrofit Outside Shower Reply #8 – January 23, 2008, 09:23:21 am Yahoo Message Number: 88734Chris I think the need depends a lot on how you use the vehicle. We had one on one of our earlier SOB and loved it. When we had the grandkids with us near the beach it was great way to clean the sand and real dirt off without filling the tanks. Many of the places we have camped have had easy access to water but poor access to dumping. For that the outside shower was great. Our current unit still SOB doesn't have one and it is really missed.
