disposable propane canister storage

We received a new Weber gas grill for Christmas for use in Silver, our 2007 RK.  We are trying to decide how best to handle the disposable propane canisters.  The grill was given to us while we were in California.  We secured the partially empty canister in one of the under floor compartments for our trip back to Texas, but we would rather have it (and eventually a back-up spare or two) in a vented area.

I did a search here and found that several people mentioned storing them either in the same compartment as the main propane tank or with the spare tire on the back.  Both of those sound like good ideas.
Would anyone that has done this care to share more details?  What did you add to these areas to hold the canisters?  Were you happy with the results? Anyone have pictures? I apologize if the details have been provided and I missed them.

Thanks.

P.S.  Yes, I know that adding a line to the existing propane tank and avoiding the disposable canisters is an option, but we would prefer the disposable canister route at least for now.

I did both in our '83, but our propane tank is a DOT removable type, so I don't know if your tank compartment will allow secure storage as ours does (only for 1 cylinder, though). Although our spare tire arrangement is also different, our method there might work for you. I cut out a piece of hardboard to fit as a cover for the bottom 2/3 of the spare tire rim, securing it with an extension to the nuts securing the wheel to the spare compartment. This allows me to safely store 5-6 propane cylinders in the wheel rim cavity.

Thanks, Steve.  I need to look at the spare tire compartment and see if we could do something similar to what you have suggested.  I am still also thinking about something in the propane compartment, but that would require building something to secure the containers to the wall since there is no flooring.

I don't understand why you would want to contend with disposable canisters when you don't have to. Could you please explain your reasoning?
I carry and use a gas BBQ which I fuel from the main tank, utilizing a "T" and two lengths of hose so that I can position the BBQ near the coach door. Neat, clean and very convenient, and no extra canisters to contend with.

Steve, in the past you mentioned to me that you were having problems with the hose arrangement, how are things going these days?

These days I'm keeping my lazy bones in the house and away from the BBQ where it would be wet and cold. When the weather breaks I'll get back outside and start getting ready for a new season. Pity all those LD owners who live where the snow flies.

Steve,
I agree that running from the main propane tank has many advantages.
We do want to add the capability. However, there are two reasons I would like to find a way to safely transport the small canisters. (1)I was hoping to come up with something simple that I could use until we have the opportunity to get such a T-arrangement prepared.  (2) Even when we have that capability, there are a number of places where we would like to position the grill some distance from the coach.  Having the smaller disposable canisters available would give us that option.
