I was thinking about replacing my vent in the bathroom that is now leaking with a fantastic fan... Are there different ones...
Any recomendations and is there much involved in replacing the vent? Thanks in advance for your response.

Ellen,
I haven't replaced any fans, but want to remind you whatever fan you get should be an *exhaust* fan.  You do not want a reversible fan for the bathroom!  The holding tank vent on the roof is likely to be near the fan.

A Fan-Tastic fan in the bathroom is a big improvement over the noisy little fan that LD used to install. There are several models; you can read about them on the company's website (http://www.fantasticvent.com/>). The differences concern whether the fan has a thermostat, a remote control and/or a rain sensor that closes the lid automatically when wet. (If you have a vent cover, this last feature is obviously unnecessary.)

Personally, I prefer the basic model 4000--I don't need the fancy features, and there's less to go wrong if they're not present. The model 8000 "Create-A-Breeze" is the only Fan-Tastic fan that's not reversible, but it has white rather than transparent blades, so it lets in a little less light.

Lazy Daze for years made a big fuss over the reversibility issue, refusing to install Fan-Tastic fans in bathrooms because they feared somebody might run the fan on intake and pull in nasty smells from the nearby black tank vent. (They now install exhaust-only Fan-Tastic fans in all bathrooms.)

Personally, I think their concern was way overblown. I leave the in/out rocker switch of my bathroom fan on "exhaust" and turn the fan on and off with the speed knob. Since I never touch the rocker switch, there's zero chance I will ever set the fan on intake. So my advice is to choose whichever fan suits your needs and not worry about whether it's reversible. :-)

YES, there are different ones. I now have four of those 'different' ones, plus one Fantastic Fan, and I wish I could get rid of it.

I have a 30'IB! There is one vent up forward, one mid-ships (the Fantastic), two in hall and toilet, and one in the rear bedroom. All but the Fantastic have now been replaced with MaxxAir's "MaxxFan" model. This fan has it's own integral rain cover, it moves just as much air as the Fantastic, they are noticably quieter and you don't need a screw driver and six fingers to remove the screen.

Did I install them? No, I had a trusted shop do it for me.

Is this what I would need to install the basic model 4000 Fantastic Fan to the aluminum roof of the LD? Is it doable project for a beginner?

Thanks for the response to my fan question Andy and Alex.

All I can tell you is that while I'm reasonably handy, I had mine installed by professionals, Mike & Lisa Sylvester.

And even if you did accidentally switch to "intake," it would only take one whiff of the odor being drawn inside to discover your error! ;-)

We replaced ours with a standard thermostatic FF without the rain sensor. We have a vent cover over ours, so we can have the vent open all the time, powered or not. I also ran a power circuit over from the adjacent ceiling light, since I did not feel the wire gauge supplied for the previous vent was adequate. We use our vent on low in exhaust mode 99% of the time, but have never had a problem when using it on intake. I see no reason to install the one-way model, as long as you are careful not to use intake mode most of the time, and never while in motion.

The FF was easy to install - removing the old vent was tiring and frustrating, and it did not survive the ordeal intact.

1) The people at Fantastic Fan are a pleasure to deal with. They set a  model for how customer service should be.

2) I thought the multi-speed reversible FF in the rear lounge was a
little loud at low speed. I sent them a note wondering if they had a fan with a lower RPM. I was prepared to pay more. They called me and said they had bench tested a new batch of fans and they had selected one with slightly lower RPM they thought might work for me. It arrived a few days later and it was a snap to install. The tough part was getting my old bones off the roof. BTW, this was all done at their cost.

Now if someone can design the equivalent of a drug store fan for an RV.

I might be interested in buying your used Fantastic Fan.  What model is it and how much do you want for it shipped to ZIP 86314?

I totally agree with Steve.  We had one of each installed in our last MH and the ratio of noisy to quiet was very noticeable. Those Fantastic Fans are really noisy in comparison.  And I had them installed also.

Well, I'm sorry to say that my FF is not for sale, even though I'd give it away if it were not still mounted in my LD roof.
Because of how (or where) Lazy Daze, Inc. decided to mount my second solar panel I cannot protect that vent opening with a rain cover because of restricted clearances. Not for the FF or for the much preferred MaxxFan types that I have in the other vents. So, for the foreseeable future I must go 'topless' when it comes to that particular vent.
