[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] I have seen a few articles about new technology...  could you be a
little more specific or perhaps provide a link?

www.nanosolar.com ; just google "nanosolar" and/or "new solar technology" and you'll find plenty of articles on the topic.

there are also spray-on solar panels, and a few other types....  I was just curious which one in specific as I assumed it could be RV specific....

Just about every month you can find an announcement of a "revolutionary new" solar technology that promises to cut prices to a fraction of what we're paying for crystalline panels. Screen-printed, flexible, spray-on... they've all been announced over and over in many variations.
But if you read carefully, you'll discover that all these super-cheap technologies--even if they were actually available on the market, as opposed to still in the lab--would have much lower efficiencies than crystalline panels.
Now, if you want to cover the roof of your four-bedroom house with the stuff, you don't much care if it's inefficient, as long as it's cheap.
But on a class C RV, you need the highest efficiency you can get, because there just ain't all that much real estate on the roof after you subtract the vents and air conditioner. In short, none of the "revolutionary" ultra-cheap solar technologies announced so far is suitable for RVs.
And again, there's a big gap between what's in the lab and what's in the stores. Press releases are cheap, while production is expensive.
Here's a simple rule of thumb: is AM Solar selling it? Are the other major RV solar vendors selling it? No? Then it isn't something to plan on.

My advice: if you want solar panels, don't wait for pie in the sky, because it isn't coming anytime soon. :-) Shop for the best of today's technology (which is very good indeed), and enjoy it.
