Honda Fit as Toad

Learned today from a Honda Dealer that Honda now says the 07 and 08 Fit is flat towable. They provided a copy of the email letting them know and a copy of the pages of the manual that describe what you have to do.
Sounds the same as the CRV directions. The advantages are 2500 pounds, great mileage and good storage. Haven't driven one yet but plan on trying one this weekend.
If anyone needs to see the email and notes, let me know and I will scan them and put them in the files section.

Shopping for cars a few weeks ago, I test drove the Fit, loved it, except it had far more road noise on the freeway than the Civic, and really wasn't that much less expensive.
Contact me offline for more info if you would like.
I bought a Civic instead, after driving many cars.

We have a 07 Honda Fit which we love.  When we bought the car it was stated as not towable.  We had a CRV before the fit which we towed everywhere.  We would love to see the email and notes.

Thanks, Bud

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  4 months after I geve up on begging Honda and bought an HHR.  Oh well, the HHR matches my LD, from retro to paint.

sigh

Don, how does the HHR compare to the Honda? Have you been happy with it? We intend to drive one again this weekend.

Apples and oranges, I think, Jim.  We liked the FIT because it did "fit" both of us. It appeared to be well made (Honda of course) and the feel was good.  Seating was comfortable for the ever critical chiropractor spouse, but we didn't drive it because we were assured it was "not possible to tow the automatic version" by the Honda dealership, further backed up by numerous messages over in the RV forums.
As far as the HHR, we've been delighted, with only two minor gripes.
As the tall guy, I have to hunch over to see hanging stoplights or high placed stoplights.  Mary being the shortie gets frustrated by the rear seat headrests which severely block her view out the rear.
We solved her problem by leaving only the seat directly behind the driver in the "up" position and laying the passenger 1 1/2 wide rear seat down making the storage area pretty big in the rear yet leaving room to carry an extra person in back.  I just live with never needing a sun visor in that car and hunkering down 'till the light turns green.

We have been Verizon users for years. We added the HHR's "Onstar" phone to our family plan for $9.95/month and both of us use call forwarding when we're in the car on longer trips so everything is totally hands free.  Frankly, I'm not impressed with the Onstar "Directions and Connections" feature though, and will probably cancel it until Onstar gets more proficient with the service and all the bugs are removed.  It does have the potential for replacing a GPS though, and at a cost effective price, but as a toad GPS I'd prefer something not dependent upon Verizon coverage.
All in all, we're getting between 25 and 26 mpg around town with lots of stop and go stuff.  I know I griped about the FIT getting towability after we bought the HHR, but neglected to add the BIG caveats: 1) we never drove the FIT to compare it and 2) we never pushed a pencil to see if the cost differences were worth the vehicle differences.

The HHR has, at least so far, filled all of our needs, has been absolutely trouble free, and does fit the LD's retro image, so we're not gonna even think about switching.  Besides, I'm getting to like Onstar with it's monthly email chastizing me for keeping my tire pressures 2 lbs too low. (HHR has tire pressure monitoring, BTW.)

Get the side curtain airbags if you do go HHR!
