Blue's Misadventure

Having just read about poles in LD windows, window locks and storage issues, I felt I must share Blue's experience.

There was a message on my phone from the RV storage lot..then the Peoria Police called.  Seems Blue was broken into, along with 19 other vehicles in storage.  This lot is in a residential retirement neighborhood (Sun City, in fact), and has full time care takers and video.

The creeps pried open the rear passenger coach window, cracking the glass and somehow getting the track lock open.  As nothing of value is kept inside, their ransacking only netted them my tool kit.  I'm too pissed off to look further tonight to see what else is missing.
They damaged the underpinnings of the rear sofa, too.

Tomorrow I will start clean up and repairs, although I did bring Blue to the house and straightened the window track so the window will lock. As it's raining, some water got inside.  BUT what REALLY pisses me off is that it smells like they SMOKED in there!!  What *$# ()#, that REALLY makes me mad!!

I am thankful that the care-takers and their dog are okay, as they pass Blue at least twice a day for potty breaks for the dog.  They are pretty sure they know who is responsible.  They feel horrible about what has happened.  There are also two other LD's that I know of stored there.  I told them to let the PD know they could use Blue for surveilence if necessary.
I've already spoken to Vince at the Mothership.  Glass is available, but if the frame is ruined, I may have a problem.  As Blue is going to Los Angeles the 10th, it won't be out of my way to get him fixed.  I plan on taking my mom to the Santa Paula GTG the 13th!
SOOO... keep your poles in the windows (of course, they didn't break the window with the broken latch, right??), and check out thoroughly your storage facility.  Yes, Blue will go back,  yes, I'm nervous about it, but at least he is more or less in one piece.

Damn-it!!!

Oh Lisa, I am so sorry to hear about that happening to Blue!  What a violation!  I hope they catch those thugs.
I hope it won't be as bad tomorrow as you initially experienced today with the shock of it. I'm really sorry.

OH NO! I'm so sorry, Lisa! But I'm glad you didn't lose anything really valuable. As for the smoke smell, talk to Fern Horst--she managed to get the smell out of the former "Smokey," which had been smoked in for a year or more... so I'm sure you can get rid of a few minutes' worth of smoke. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your window repair is not too hard.

Oh Lisa,
I am SO SORRY to hear about Blue.  After the time we spent in Blue at the Balloon Fiesta, it was apparent to me how much you love and take care of your rig.

Let me know if there is anything you need, and please, let us all know how this whole thing plays out.

Kate

And for the smoking smell, I suggest a product called Smells Begone (Punati Corp).  I've used it for years, works on ALL odors, available at most Ace Hardwares.  It will take that stinky smell right out, and leaves no odor of its own behind.

My main tool was distilled vinegar with drops of orange essential oil in it. I used it to wipe everything down in order to get the nicotine residue off of surfaces and it worked really well. I then used Kilz on the ceiling and painted it, which also helped, but it needed it regardless, being a 28 year old rig. :) It really brightened things up.
But I doubt you'll need to do all that, Lisa, if it was just briefly smoked in. I would just put vinegar in a spray bottle (and some essential oil if you have it, orange helps to absorb odors), and spray it into the air all through the rig and on the cushions and sofa. I'd also put it in bowls and let them sit in the rig for a few days. Also, leaving the windows open overnight when there's no danger of rain seems to really help.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, Lisa. I'm glad they didn't get anything much of value and that there wasn't any more damage than there was, but nonetheless it's a violation of your personal property and that doesn't feel good at all.

Here's to better days for you and Blue!
