12 volt Power On Roof

I want to put a motion activated 12volt light on the roof aimed down on the "front porch". This would be a portable unit and would only be set up occasionally.
I thought maybe someone could tell me if 12 volt battery power is available at the solar panel junction box at night or is it blocked at the solar controller. I have the HVP22 B controller?

Thanks, Norm

Norm,

It's blocked.
You do have power available at the porch light though. How about installing a PIR (passive infrared) motion detector permanently near or above the door? This could be either wireless (think batteries to change) or hard wired. It could drive a small relay to power the porch light or an add-on light.

This isn't exactly what you asked for, but may be of interest anyway.
This year a number of companies are selling inexpensive ($18-$25) *solar-powererd* Christmas lights, typically in a string of 50-60 outdoor-rated LEDs with a fist-sized charger module containing batteries and a solar panel. They require no external power source, and they automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn. Here are a few suppliers I found:

Linens 'n' Things also sells these solar-powered Christmas lights in your choice of multicolored or white for $25--I saw them yesterday, but cannot track them down today, due to a lame search engine on their site. If you're going into one of their stores, you might ask.

Admittedly this isn't a substitute for a motion-triggered porch light... but on the other hand, with 50 lights, you could frame your whole entry door with them! ;-)

There is 12V for the fridge behind the outside service panel. A line can be snaked up and out the roof vent.

That source of power is worth considering. I am also considering Bumpers suggestion of reconfiguring the existing porch light.
My thought was to put a real "flame thrower" light that would come on in the middle of the night and scare off any person thinking of removing any of my play toys.
I bought this light at Harbor freight.

I made a bracket that slides down into the gap between the awning and the side wall of the coach. It works ok but I was looking for something much brighter.
Andy suggested Christmas lights and I will have them on but the string I have is 120 volt so they will be off at bedtime.
