A Hot Reminder!!! November 08, 2007, 05:43:25 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85714All:As WFP (aka DH)and I were rolling down I-95 just outside of sunny Jacksonville, FL mid-afternoon today when we smelled smoke like paper smoke...how odd...windows were open and we check both sides of the road for fire...then I happened to look down and there was smoke wafting up from the Woodall's on my lap!No...no smoking in "Wild Thing" so no careless ashes, BUT...as navigator with 55++ eyes, I was holding a magnifying glass in my right hand because I was checking accommos for the night...and apparently I had it at the right angle to my window for just the right amount of time to burn a hole in 3 pages...a hole big enough to run a toothpick through. Rather than demonstrate that for DH I doused the pages well with water (a bottle of which is always at hand when we set out each day) so I was able to avoid setting myself on fire.I know this escapade is right out of Magnifying Glass 101, but it's been a long time since 8th grade and I was probably absent the day of the quiz, (that day and the one where the teacher explained...if a train leaves Chicago at 9 a.m. and another train leaves NYC at 10 a.m......)Of further contemporary use...I-95 in Georgia...road construction; I-95 at Jacksonville, FL... and also on 9A out of Jacksonville southbound and on the N.B. Broward Bridge...road construction that looks like it will create enormous traffic jams during rush hours...for some time to come. For those looking for an interesting place to visit...Asheville, NC...we spent 2 nights there and plan to go back for at least 5 days...the obvious draw is the Biltmore Estate*, which has a lot of interesting tours and activities other than the "castle." Asheville has lots of galleries, shops and bistros to browse and there is a terrific full time multi-building Farmer's Market which is very easily found on Route 191 at I-40...I found varieties of heirloom tomatoes I had never seen, regional favorites like sweet potato pie (by the slice or by the pie), preserves such as chow-chow, muscadine and moonshine jellies, parched corn, sidemeat bacon,...crafts and much much more. As well, there are many RV parks and the fall foliage rivals that of New England...the downside would appear to be that it snows there...something I hope to avoid for the rest of my life...the thrill of snow is gone after 30 years in Maine! *For those who want to "do" the Biltmore...check on-line for tickets. I bought ours on-line for $40 each...which is a savings of $15 each...the instructions are simple to follow...and I suspect the price was discounted because the first week of Nov is a slow period; possibly there are other times, too. Also, if you buy on-line, you check in at the Bus & RV area immediately upon entering the grounds...no need to stop at the Admissions Center and stand in line, which I gather can be a loooonnngg wait. Also...we recommend springing for the $8.00/ea audio tour...very well worth the $$. And wear your most comfortable walking shoes...tour goes basement to 4th floor, and includes stairs and only a few spots to sit and rest the feet. And for those who remember Davey Crockett...King of the Wild Frontier (I can sing it all, if you'd like)...the Tennessee State Park system includes the Davey Crockett Birthplace State Park...and there is RV camping available! I would have loved to have gone there this trip, but another time. We did stay at Warriors' Path State Park..W/E with senior %, $16.00...very pleasant and quiet mid-week this time of year. There you have it...more information than you thought you'd ever want to know...and maybe more than I know.Tina P "Wild Thing" 2006 26.5 MB Silver

Reply #2 – November 10, 2007, 08:58:27 am Yahoo Message Number: 85764This reminds me of a time, long ago, we were tent camping and left a glass bottle of water at the front of the tent. After a walk we found the sun had magnified through the glass and melted/burnt the fabric of the tent. We always cover the water bottles now.Orlan
