Wet Wash/Dry Wash

I'm home-based and our longest trips are never more than a few weeks in length, so I keep the motorhome washed at home for the most part.
On a long trip and/or if it's dirty, if there is an RV wash-up area available where we're camped I'll use it, but that's about it.
Specifically, I haven't used any commercial or truck wash because of possible rough treatment, water in the vents, decal damage, paint scratches, etc., but maybe I'm being overly protective here. I am asking how anyone on the road for long periods of time handles this.
Also, what is the thinking about so-called "dry wash" products? Ones like DWG that sell for about $40/bottle are hyped with glowing testimonials, but I just don't know. To me, grit is grit, and at this point I don't feel safe removing it with anything except an approved vehicle cleaner, a bucket of suds, and lots of running water.  I'll be interested to read anyone's experience on this.
