I need your expert opinion/advice.  Since the rains have now subsided in the Central Coast area of California, we decided to use this weekend to wash/wax/detail our 2003 26' RB, Red.  We wax our rig at least 2x a year and wash it about quarterly unless traveling a lot which results in more washes.
We discovered white streaks in several locations.  Some appear to be caused from the vent opening at the base of windows, but one rather large discolored area is in the burgundy stripe paint area at the rear of the coach.  It's about 1 inch across and then runs down the length of that striped area and a bit beyond.  It's quite unsightly and very obvious.  We tried Finish First Prep, but it didn't make any improvement whatsover.

Andy, I know you recently recommended a product called Aluminium Restorer & Polish Cleaner to help with faded paint and there has been much discussion about the use of vinegar.  I don't want to try anything until we get some valued opinions.

How should we tackle this problem?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Patti

Gee, I don't remember doing so--are you sure it wasn't somebody else? I couldn't find anything that sounded like that in the archives, anyway.

Sorry, Andy, you're right - I just went in and checked.  Bill H. posted the following in March:  "Ok.  Found the cleaner/polisher at west marine dot com.  In the keyword section type:  Aluminum Restorer & Polish Cleaner.  It's a little pricey but less expensive than a paint job."

Here's what you responded:  "It isn't a commercial unless you're selling the stuff yourself. We welcome product recommendations from satisfied buyers...so please post the details! Gertie's blue stripes could sure use a touch-up. ;-)"
Any other ideas on what we should do?  Maybe Bill will respond if he thinks this product will help.

Thank you! Patti

Bill, thanks for your post.  We'll try this product.  We'll also call the Mothership to find out what they might suggest.  I appreciate your taking the time to clarify the use of this product.

I tried the posted web site for the marine store and it didn't come up.  If you have the same problem try:

Westmarine dot com

In the little search box on the top type "Aluminum Oxidation" and you will get a page with the product:  Aluminum restorer & Polish
Cleaner.

Scroll down the same page and you will see: Starbrite - Marine Polish.
This is what I used for the fiberglass oxidation.
Sorry about the confusion.

Bill, We used both products on our almost "rose colored" red TK. The aluminum restorer was a little $$$$  but we decided to trust the source, ;-), and buy it anyway. $27.99 for a little jar! So far we've done the back and one side. The difference is phenomenal. Finish First did nothing when we used it. I understand from the owner of another older TK that there is a point of no return on really oxidized paint but Ladybug, at 16+ years and salt water spray  hadn't reached it.
