LD escape module

Once again the LD has served as an escape vehicle.
The Chatsworth Fire has been burning around us for two days and last night, it burned through the abandoned reservoir, up to the backyard fences in our cul-de-sac.
Earlier, when it became obvious that we were in the direct path of the fire, we had loaded the LD with our irreplaceable items and parked it several blocks away.
Just minutes before the fire got to us, six fire trucks pulled up, set up their hoses and knocked the flames down. Minutes later they were gone, following the fire as it continued eastward into the next neighborhood.
The combined fire departments of many cities have done an outstanding job in protecting the homes in this area...hats off to them. The water dropping aircraft are worth every penny they cost.
Except for the overpowering smell of burnt brush, everything is fine and we will not have the fire worry for a few years.

Having the LD makes us feel better knowing we will have a place to live if tragedy strikes.
We make it a practice to always keep the LD loaded with gas, water and propane along with clothing and staple food items.  It gets stocked immediately when returning from a trip.
Living in fire, earthquake and flood country, it makes good sense and we are always ready for impromptu trips.

Whew Larry! I'm really glad your house was spared. I've been watching it for the last couple days on the LA news and there are several burning that are really bad. The reviews on the firefighters has been exceptionally positive, both in skill and in numbers. Yes, an LD is a great thing to have in fire and earthquake country.

Glad to hear all is well and that you were prepared if it went bad.

---- I was hoping that the fire "missed" you and that all is OK; glad to hear that's so!  It's a(nother) good reminder to keep the LD gassed, full of propane, and stocked with basics; in CA, as in several other locales, it's not a question of "if", but "when" in the "assorted disasters" category.

In 1994, we lived a 1/4 mile from the epicenter of the Northridge quake. Our neighborhood looked similar to a war zone, with refuges camped on their lawns and in the parks. We were lucky to have our camper-van available as an emergency home.
It was only a few months later when we bought our first LD. We have always kept the LDs loaded and ready the next disaster.
No matter where you live, Mother Nature has something planned for you .
As Katrina and Rita have shown, you better be ready to fend for your self for a week or two before expecting help to arrive.
