Tire extenders and Battery Water September 28, 2005, 05:39:10 pm Yahoo Message Number: 58493Just wanted to let people know that we had a good experience with Tire Man and are very happy with the results. Called out there from NY and ordered the valve extenders. Enjoyed the coversation on the phone and the stems came right away. Went up to our local tire store (one that speciallizes in large truck and tractor tires) and they said no problem. We are very pleased with how simple it was and love the product. Also ordered the Fill Right battery watering system from the mothership. It just came today. Also got a couple of latches for the big shower door. The female end broke during our first outing with a 5 year old grandson. One for replacement and one for spare. I should have also ordered the female plastic clip that holds the outside door open. It broke last week. Fortunately the previous owner had a spare in the stash of parts. Does anyone know if this white clip is available at Camping World? This week the contractors are pouring twin concrete strips for "Fiona" to set on in the back yard next to the driveway. Our yard isn't level and I wanted to be able to use the LD as a guest house with everything including the refrigerator working. They are doing a good job but it really makes the slope of the yard obvious.Other things we are looking into include Bigfoot Levelers and the Pioneer GPS/Rear view camera combination (also has radio etc.) I know that there is some concern about weight with the levelers. As for the Pioneer it seems worth while to consider getting rid of tha standard radio with the small buttons and getting a 6 inch in dash GPS and Rear view camera for about the same cost as the backup camera alone if you order it. Any comments on these items?Hope to see many of you on the road,Greg, Karen and Fiona (2000 30IB) Finger Lakes NY

The part is Kwikee P/N 905493002 and is called a Grip-O- Door Holder.Mine tended to break farily often and then I noticed a note in the LD manual that says "The door stop should align dead center to the plastic door catch or the door catch will break again." I used a piece of paper as a "feeler gauge" to determine if one side was touching before the other. It was and once I bent one of the legs on the metal stop to make both sides touch at the same time, the clips last a lot longer.Monti

The standard saying applies here: "jack of all trades and master of none." ;-) As a practical matter, do you really want an expensive GPS navigation system that can't be moved from your rig. Are you going to buy a separate one if you decide to two, or rent a car, or...? With a StreetPilot or similar GPS navigator you can easily move the unit from vehicle to vehicle. In any case, you'll find plenty of discussion of the pros and cons of the Pioneer unit in the archive (http://www.lazydazers.org/Yahoo/msg_display.php>). Take a look and think about how you will really use it (e.g., how often do you expect you'll want to watch DVD movies on a six-inch screen while sitting in the cab?).Andy Baird
Re: Pioneer in-dash AM/FM/DVD/GPS/etc. Reply #3 – September 30, 2005, 10:23:26 am Yahoo Message Number: 58533Actually Andy, though I know I put at least one message there myself, the searches brought up nothing at 7am here, so I'll make a small addition. All one need do is stroll down to the nearest auto dealership "row" and you'll find that in-dash combination units are appearing as options on many new vehicles, and stock on the upper end ones. It's a natural extension of what has been going on since the 1950's when all one could get was an AM radio. Then came the first AM/FM combo, followed by AM/FM/8 track (ewww) and so on.It is also very true that the AVIC-N2 is expensive at $1400 (Ebay), yet the cost of any full featured radio and full featured GPS easily equals it. The "Jack of all trades" statement is no longer as applicable in the world of electronics. Going Pioneer (or equivalent) is a personal decision based on both convenience and desire, just as owning anything more capable than a simple AM radio is.In my case, I already have (and constantly use) a built in Toyota labeled system in my 4Runner that equals the Pioneer, less backup camera capability. Why buy two devices (camera monitor/gps) and clutter up an LD dash area when I'll not move it ever, and by the time I sell the LD, there will likely be a combination unit that includes real time internet access with road conditions and detours thrown in and maybe even avoidance radar? As for "Who wants to watch DVD?" I hope nobody does while driving, but it sure does break up the boredom in the 4Runner while waiting for "Shop 'till she drops"....Few here can justify GPS itself as a "need" as long as adequate paper maps are available, but we love 'em. (I have 4 if you include boat and hand helds). Who needs "justification" anyway? If it feels good and you can afford it, go for it.DonQuoteThe standard saying applies here: "jack of all trades and master of none." ;-) QuoteIn any case, you'll find plenty of discussion of the pros and cons of the Pioneer unit in the Quotearchive (http://www.lazydazers.org/Yahoo/msg_display.php>). The Pioneer gives both a GPS and a back-up camera in one unit and costs about the same as the back-up camera alone from the factory. It also gives one a more driver friendly radio to use. What I was asking was if any had experience with the Pioneer GPS and or Rear view camera. I see from one of the other replies from Don that the Pioneer is essentially the same as the Toyota GPS and that he likes his. My thanks to both of you for responding to my inquiry. I would invite others to share any views or experiences they may have on the subject.Greg Emerton

Re: Tire extenders and Battery Water Reply #6 – October 01, 2005, 03:14:45 am Yahoo Message Number: 58562Greg, When our door clip broke, I did find a replacement at Camping World by comparing to the broken one. It was not an exact match, but the screw holes matched up and it has worked fine for several years now. It must be a popular item, as there was only one sack of two left on the rack.Barry 01 r rb tx atWhen our
