LD roadtrip to pick out retirement spot

Dear Murphys, As you wander in your LD looking for a retirement town, you might want to get a book: Choose the Pacific Northwest for Retirement by Howells and Harris.
Very useful to us even though we chose the Low Sierra in Northern CA instead.
But the book told us where to take the LD in the summer.
So much of the retirement town decision depends on what you want: low costs, access to good medical care, access to outdoors or to culture like Ashland, good year round climate---many retirees forget the year round part and so boomerang back from FLA or AZ. Other considerations:  being near kids, compatible neighbors, near water, not too long a drive to old friends. Just remember that many who move away from their kids in early retirement end up moving to be back near them as they get older or as just one of them survives. Nothing wrong with this. Just prepare for it.
Nice thing about having an LD is that no matter what you choose, you can visit the still beckoning other places. A moveable feast.
Happy travels.
Best, Maryellen
