Fridge will not start w/ gas September 23, 2005, 11:01:11 am Yahoo Message Number: 58294Every Friday for the past 5 weeks I go out to our 2002 LD to turn on the fridge. 1st I turn on the gas (outside), then push the 'on' button. After checking 30 minutes later the 'check' light is on. I repeat the steps again and nothing. Then I start the generator (fridge is on auto setting). The fridge starts to cool. After 20 minutes I shut gen off, fridge switches over to GAS, and it keeps going. Any ideas why the fridge will not start w/out first running by electric?

If your house batteries were so dead that they couldn't provide power to the refrigerator's 12VDC controller board, that could account for the symptoms you describe. But if that were the case, you would likely have noticed the dead batteries. I suspect that your problem has nothing to do with electricity. It takes awhile for gas to flow to the fridge, and two attempts to start it (as you describe) may not be enough, at least in my experience. If you light a stove burner first, that will help get the gas flowing through the system. Even then, it may still take two or three attempts to start the fridge with the "On" button. (You can turn off the stove burner as soon as it's lit, by the way--the fact that it lit that shows gas is flowing in the pipes.)Hope this helps!Andy Baird

Refer wouldn't start on gas, but would switch to gas after running on elec for a while (when the elec was turned off). Turned out to be a doohickey (can't think of the correct term - might be the igniter) with a hairline crack. Wouldn't fire when cold, but once heated by running on elec, would work fine. In Auto my dometic fridge seeks 120v AC and if it's not available it defaults to propane. BTW, I've seen "standard" AC referred to as 110v, 115v, and 120vAC but I've never seen 12vDC referred to as 11 or 13vDC or 220vAC referred to as 215v or 225vAC? Actually, we had a mini GTG - Chris and Pat Horst fixed a delightful picnic dinner, came by our Craig Hospital Campground, (joke. it's parked on the street with an electrical hookup) picked us up and we went out to Andy's digs. After that, we have NO idea what he did, except that he was taking off with a friend to see the fall colors up in the mountains and chase some lumens. Well, actually, Andy did send me some absolutely frame-able pictures of some wild life the other day - further evidence of his existence. Fortunately it was only a coyote, and was much more interested in field mice than in us humans! Likewise, the elk had their own affairs to attend to.
