dead battery prevention

I believe J.C. Whitney has a device that is wired to the battery and if it detects drain it will trip a circuit breaker and thus disconnect the battery from the system.  Upon returning and discovering the vehicle will not start, raise the hood, flip the circuit breaker back on and you are ready to rock and roll.  I have seen these, but I do not have and personal experience with it.

My continous use solenoid, would keep my starting battery charged as well as the auxillary battery I used to power my inverter to run my equipment I had in the back of my work van ( former locksmith).
It would separate the two when the engine was not running.

Hope this helps.

It also sounds like you don't have a headlights on warning buzzer.  Our 1989 doesn't either, but you can buy a small, about the size of a large sugar cube, device from NAPA.  I can't remember what hooks into what, though one lead has to be hooked to a fuse for an item that's on when the lights are on, like the dashboard lights.  $10-12.  Sorry, I don't have the part number.  Just ask for a headlight on buzzer.

John & Cheryl,
Our 2001 does have the headlights on warning buzzer, but it only goes off when you open the driver's door.  If you pull into a camping spot and walk to the back and exit via the coach door, there is no warning.
This allowed us to run our truck battery down one time

The headlights on buzzer from NAPA can be wired so that it buzzes when the ignition is turned off, whether or not any doors are open.  For about $10-12, and a few minutes finding the right combination of fuses to wire it to, pretty cheap insurance.  So you have two?  Nice to know at least one would work.  On the older LD's, like our 1989, either no such animal, or it "burned out".  But I have a workable one now.
