renovations

Hello from St. John's, Newfoundland. It is incredibly beautiful here. I'm staying in Pippy Park in the heart of the city. It's a beautiful wooded park with a couple of lakes and walking trails. Definitely 5 stars.
I've been living in my rig now for a couple of months and have decided to renovate when I get home. I want to tear out the 15-year-old carpet and replace it with linoleum. I also want to take out the couches. I want to put in a good reading chair and a work space.

Any advice?

Lilla

My advice would be to make sure you understand what is under the carpet and couches before you begin.  Most LD couches are the tops of  exterior- access storage areas, and could not be removed without major effects and reconstruction.  People who have removed carpeting have reported finding lots of screw heads sticking up, which would have to be dealt with before laying any flooring that requires a really smooth underflooring.
The photos section of this board includes some renovation sagas, and Andy's "Travels with Gertie" web site details his construction of a storage/work area atop one of the back-couch platforms, as well as his extremely simple recarpeting strategy.
