Trip Home with New -to -Us LD (long)

Good Evening Everyone.  I thought that I would add my tale to those of others who have recently purchased a LD. We have been shopping for more than 5 years. We finally retired and purchased a 30'IB.
My neighbor and friend (still) flew out from Buffalo NY to Phoenix a week ago Sunday.  The first owners met us at the airport and took us to the hotel.  The next day, Monday, was spent checking out the rig and arranging for a bank transfer to pay for it.  This went quite well but required more time than I anticipated because of the difference in time zones.  We also learned that it is important to have someone at home to initiate the transfer.  In this case, my wife was at home.
After a day's delay, we left Mesa on Tuesday afternoon and drove north through Payson to Winslow, AZ where we stood on the corner as per the Eagles song of the same same.  The rig handled beautifully in the mountains much like an large sedan, just don't forget about the length when parking or turning. I mention this because there was a lot of discussion here about the need for Safe-T-Steer, Bilstein shocks, Banks Power packs and the like which made me leary.  But frankly, although I am sure these are good things, there was nothing about the trip that would prompt me to go right out and buy them.
We did have one problem.  We had a malfunction in the fuel system that left us stranded near the NM/Tex border.  Good Sam Emergency service came in handy.  They came right out and towed us(according to the book)to the nearest Ford dealer.  We spent an anxious night in the lot outside the dealership but the next morning, the crew got right on it.
They checked out the fuel filter (which had been changed about 5k mi ago) and the fuel pump.  No problems there.  They ran the computer checks and reset the specs. They found nothing definative. So, I paid for the new air filter we had them put in and their time (about$75) which was reasonable since they could have told us that we needed to drop the fuel tank for a new pump which could have run about $800. For the past 2000 miles the LD has run fine.  I thought it might be some bad gasbut my buddy, who is more knowledgable about such things, thinks not. Anyone here venture a guess?

While we were waiting for the LD in NM, we learned that my friend's dog had beeen hit by a car and needed surgery.  So the next few days we moved right along.  Still the LD ran fine, she moved right along at 75 mph with heavy truck traffic on the interstates (8.6 mph). It was very comfortable.  I have driven a couple of  24' SOB Class C rentals and a small, older Class A that we owned but they never drove as well as this LD.  I think we are going to be very happy.

So here's to everyone we may meet on the road.

Okay you Finger Lakers, try this on for size...
On the east shore of Canandaigua Lake there is a point that juts out into one of the deepest parts of the lake. It is known locally by the name "Genundewah", meaning "Deep Water". If your new rig is 'unfathomable' perhaps you could tag her with that. Or not!

Congratulations, Greg and Karen! (and your friend, who's still a friend). 5 years is a long, long time to wait for your LD delivery, but it sure is worth it, huh? Now we'll see you at the 50th in Wyoming next year, huh?

How about joining a bunch of us back in Albuquerque early October, for the Balloon Fiesta? You already know the way!
