Noise appears to be coming from rear axle like a stone in hubcap but we don't think it is. Only hear when moving. Does anyone have an idea on what the problem might be???

Check those wheel covers if so equipped.  They can sure make noise if loose.  Had that problem on my 2003.

I second the recommendation to check the wheel covers.  I had a scrapping like noise coming from one of the rear wheels.  Removed the wheel cover and tightened the lug bolt extensions(on the two lugs operational for the wheel covers)then replaced wheel covers and have had no noise since.

We had exactly this noise, only from a front wheel.  It seemed to change with the speed of the vehicle.  Finally my husband pulled off the hubcap to find . . .

that his father had taped a house key to the inside of the hubcap, probably when the car was new in 1991.  This was more than ten years later, and I guess the masking tape finally wore out, and the key was a free agent!

But it sure was a mystery for a long time.
