Certified axle weights August 03, 2005, 11:39:50 am Yahoo Message Number: 56410As a prospective "C" buyer, Lazy Daze is one of the top two 5 star contenders. Specifically the 23.5 rear twin model, subject to change of course. Being close (88 miles) to the "mothership" helps. I've not yet found a record of certified axle weights on the various LD models when they are "ready to roll" and that data would go a long way toward fine tuning our choice. It's good information for owners anyway, since it can alleviate safety concerns. Will you LD owners please share your data with me? Enquiring minds want to know! Now for the reasons behind the request. We are committed to towing our boat http://home.pacbell.net/sneaks2/jennybtiny.jpg around the country and exploring the waterways after decades of RV'ing using our 5th wheel. Our inspiration is reading about http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/index.htm these two retired teachers who are following their dream in a pickup camper towing theirs.Yes, the hitch would have to be reenforced - boat and trailer weigh in at 4600 lbs. loaded. Ideally, a front hitch receiver would be installed as well and IF there is enough weight "room" on the front axle, a rack with some two seater motorized "device" would be carried there in lieu of a traditional toad/dinghy.

Re: Certified axle weights Reply #3 – August 03, 2005, 04:19:12 pm Yahoo Message Number: 56426Don and Larry, We tried to find out earlier what is the weight of 'stuff' that LDers carry. The response was not too good, but based on 5 replies (including yours, Larry), the result is that Part-time LDers carry 1374 lbs of 'stuff' Full-time LDers carry 2136 lbs of 'stuff'This is based on measured loaded weight minus wet weight of the vehicle. The small number of responses makes the uncertainy of the numbers above to be quite high.It is not separated by LD model.HTHBarry 01 r rb tx at

A small sample is far better than no sample at all.Front axle info was what I was particularly interested in, and the data here and on another E450 based site seems to indicate there is a definite safety marg

Re: [Life With A Lazy Daze RV] Certified axle weights Reply #7 – August 03, 2005, 02:11:09 pm Yahoo Message Number: 56418Thank you, Linda. That is correct, you give the "Gross Axle Weight Rating" for an E450, but it is not the actual weight, which I'm interested in.As an example, my diesel truck has a front axle GAWR of 4500# per owners manual. A CAT scale weighed my front axle at 4100# with my 5th wheel attached, meaning I have 400# to play with before reaching max allowable. Barely sufficient for what I envision. I would expect the Ford V10 engine to weigh much less than the diesel version and that would give me even more capability, but without actual data it can't be accurately determined. It does, however give me hope!

Although the gross axle weight *ratings*, i.e., the maximum weights each axle can carry, are the same on all lengths and models, the *real* weights carried will vary quite a bit from model to model and from vehicle to vehicle. For example, my 2003 23.5' TK weighed 1850 at the left front corner, 1950 at the right front corner, 3500 on the left rear, and 4000 on the right rear for a down-the-road total of 11850. A FL 23.5', another person's TK , a 26.5' of any configuration, and a 30' will *all* have different axle corner weights. (No, the cause of the 500-pound difference from left to right rear has not yet been determined, but it's NOT due to the loads in the rear compartments.)IMO, your question doesn't have a definitive answer.Joan

That is correct, you give the "Gross Axle Weight Rating" for an E450, but it is not the actual weight, which I'm interested in.SNIP On our 26.5 MB, 2004 LD, RVSEF measured us on the next to last day of 2004 Spring Escapade at: 2150 left front, 2000 right front, 4250 left and right rear. We were fairly heavily loaded but for extended travel, not full time. We had a full load of water mostly distributed between the two holding tanks at this point. I use these measurements to set my tires at 60 psi front and 70 rear plus an extra 5 psi when setting out or reairing. Also I weigh about 50 pounds more than my wife who was in the passenger seat during the weighing. We were really well balanced. FWIW: Jack in Hot August Nights Reno

Just because one knows the axle weights of Person A's rig doesn't mean that Person B with the exact same model is going to have the same axle weights. It's like saying "how high is up?"Linda Hylton2004 Red 23.5' TKFrom Lava Beds National Monument N41° 43.037' / W121° 30.336' See where we are: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=1167
