Now that we have a date, it is time for us to get serious about RV insurance.  I've  searched the forum and haven't gotten much help, so let me just ask what I need to know.
Our home/auto policy is with TripleA, who doesn't have much to offer in the Moho category.  So far, with $250 deductables and high coverages ($250,000-$500,000) and full replacement coverage, we've found annual prices of $840 (Good Sam VIP, no roadside included), $717 from Progressive, including Roadside and $1169. from Foremost, including roadside.
While I'm tempted to go witrh Progressive from a cost only, I know that that is not always best when shopping insurance.
Anyone have any suggestions or wonderful coverage/assistance/helpful stories to share?

Are you happy with your coverage?  Do they pay quickly and easily?

Now that we have a date, there's so much to do!!!!

Kate (still impatient, but the wait is limited. . .)

Kate, we have RV insurance with AAA, and have been quite pleased. We took a higher deductible (I believe it is $500), and that cut the price considerably. I believe you are in CA.; so are we. Maybe you are looking for a more complex coverage than we were? We drive ours under 5,000 miles a year, which also contributes to the lesser expense.

----- Overall rates (from all companies, AFAIK) will be higher if the insured live(s) in large urban areas of many states; the same policy coverage for the same level of "customer risk" will cost more in the Bay Area, L.A., San Diego, and quite a few other metro areas in CA (and any other states) than in less-populated areas.  And, raising the deductible *can* be a significant cost-saver; your agent or insurance rep can tell you what the "break point" is, i.e., the deductible amount that is most cost-effective.
You might look at "AON", too; this was called "RVAA" in another life.

I initially thought I'd go with Progressive!
When I talked to my State Farm agent I learned that the premiums on my Umbrella Policy would quadruple if I took my RV insurance to another carrier. Guess you know that I am not insured with Progressive. Feels like being bent over a barrel.

Hi Kate, CONGRATULATIONS! In their warranty, Ford provides comprehensive road service for three years/36K so I don't think you'll need that coverage in any package you're considering right now.  You'll get to read all about it when you pick up your Warranty and Service book and new Lazy Daze manual.
YIPPEE!

I was originally covered by Progressive but after a less-than-satisfactory claims experience before I took delivery of Second Wind, switched to GMAC.  Actually, the claims handling was great -- It was the increase in my premium by the precise amount of the pay out that bugged me!  Anyway, I have full timer's/full replacement coverage with GMAC and find it quite satisfactory, especially because of the availability of  the "full replacement" coverage.  Have fun shopping!

This is important insurance if you have a new vehicle.  If you have an accident within the first 5 years that totals your rig, it'll buy you a new RV.  Without it, all you'd get is market value, a considerably less amount.

Kate: I'm just getting a quote from GMAC which did not include Roadside assistance. When I asked they said they could include it for a very small addition to the premium--$4.00 for six months. Kent

Well, that's strange, when I asked, they told me I had to but it separately!  I guess I'll spend another day on the phone!

What rig do you have?  And are you in California?

Even if an RV insurance policy includes "road service"/towing, it's still a good idea to read carefully to find out exactly what is and is not covered, and what limitations, if any, there are.  For example, a policy might say that it covers "towing", but upon reading the fine print -- or needing the service! -- the policy holder finds out that only the first $100.00 of the bill is covered by the policy, and coverage may be a one-time thing.  In a case like this, an additional road service policy, eg, CW's RoadCare or one of its clones, might be something to consider.

When you go down to pick up your new LD how do you intend to get there? Plane, bus, train, rental car?
When the late wife and I went for our delivery, we rented a mid-size auto, stuffed it to the roof with 'necessities' and dropped it off at Ontario Airport when we were through with it. Worked out slick.

Have any of you had experiences with your RV insurers, especially re: claim handling, which would lead you to applaud or abhor them?  Am comparing our insurance with others for coverage and prices, but all of this is for nothing if the company is very difficult when it comes to claims, or triples your premiums in response to claims.
(Fortunately, we've not had to make a claim.  But if we change insurers for price, we want to know track records as well.)  Thanks for the input.

I've had Progressive (Drive) Insurance since I have owned Blue (2001) - I have only had to use Road-side assistance, and have never had a problem with them.

I posted on someone's reply and not your mail post. Still getting the hang of this site and trying to get use to 45-100 emails a day lol.  I stated AAA full coverage for my 87 LD is $225 A YEAR. I do have 3 cars, a motorcycle & my house on the policy, but the discount isn't that big of deal. Great rates and great service.

I have AAA RV insurance for my 1987 Lazy Daze with full coverage for only $225.00 per year. I do have 3 cars, motorcycle and my home policy is with AAA, but it's not that huge of a discount. AAA has great rates and excellent help if you have an accident. They took care of everything twice for me.  If you get AAA card for towing, it's only $25 extra for RV coverage and they cover $200.00 each use. I've heard Good Sam is better and if I was a long distance RV driver, I'd have both. Can never have enough options

I am    wondering who most of you prefer for your RV Insurance.
All our vehicles, 4 cars  and 2003 MB 26.5' Lazy Daisy are insured with WAWANESA. Been with them since  1990.  A very good Insurance Company.    Escondido  John

I bet its because we use our car a  lot more. We have a Camry 2000 and its a good solid car.
We have GMAC and its treated us very well  in the two minor times we used it. Actually we had our son call and they came  out and towed his car both times.
When it comes time to fulltime, we will do  another comparison with GMAC and maybe Progressive.
