Scooter and Carrier Recommendations for 26.5 Lazy Daze?

Does anyone have a great Scooter that they have successfully carried on their Lazy Daze that they can recommend? Tim at the Mothership said there is a tongue weight limit of 350 lbs. (and a carrier is already about 100 lbs.) and we would love to find something that would not only carry 2 adults but that would also have tires and tread that would be great for dirt roads around camp (a mini bike won't work as those aren't street legal). The Honda Ruckus would have been great had it been able to carry 2 adults, and the larger Ruckus is too heavy.
Also, any recommendations on where to get a good carrier would also be appreciated.

I have NO experience on carrying anything on the rear hitch, especially something for two adults.

However, I have recently found an electric scooter/moped that may interest you and others in the group.
 Go to this web site,  and see what I saw. I'm seriously considering one or possibly even two of these machines.

 The electric moped looks interesting, but the weight of 120 lbs seems to be difficult to handle as far as loading/unloading from the LD unless you come up with a good scheme.   Also I saw no information about replacement batteries

Thanks Steve, and sorry my name didn't come up (first time posting here!) I want something that uses gas so I wouldn't have to worry about charging it all the time and possibly getting stranded somewhere (plan on doing a lot of boondocking). I do appreciate the info., though.

Buried in there somewhere was the information that the battery lasts about 800 charge/use cycles and costs about $150 to replace and this process takes 5 minutes. I forget the approximate mileage that that would get you, but they were basing it on a 25-mile trip before a recharge, as I recall.
 They look great, but that 23 MPH speed is a real killer if you want to do anything other than scoot around a campground or around a very small town with no traffic. Getting from your campground to a restaurant 5 miles away down the highway would be a scary proposition.

I did some more research and ended up buying a 2005 Yamaha Zuma 49cc scooter! It weighs 185 lbs. and can carry 2 people and has the larger tires with big enough tread that would allow it to go on dirth paths as well as into town for supplies or sightseeing. You can see it on the Yamaha website at http://www.yamaha-motor.com I also ordered a carrier at the dealership made by Joe Hauler (there are many different brands on the web and at motorcycle dealerships) that fits into your hitch and can be removed when not in use. It only weighs 30 lbs. so I am still under the 350 tongue weight limit that Tim suggested we stay under. You just drive the scooter up the ramp which then removes and stores onto the ramp.

 I don't mean to disparage your choice of vehicles but it does (FWIW) appear to have seating for only 1½ people. Have you tried seating two adults on that seat? Was the passenger comfortable. How long did he/she have, sitting on that 'second' seat, a few seconds or perhaps as much as an hour?

Good morning Steve, Actually 2 adults fit just fine and the seat was large enough the couple times I tried carrying a passenger (the Zuma will carry 300lbs); of course this would all depend on how large the adults were but it worked out fine and we weren't even squished! :0) I had really wanted to get the Honda Ruckus but that only carries one rider and doesn't have the foot rests for another rider... Honda does make the larger Ruckus but it is too heavy to carry on the LD.

This isn't a scooter but if you want something with more umph, try the on road off road motorcyle by suzuki, the DR200.  It weighs 249 pounds so you need to get a light weight carrier.  I have the same bike but with a smaller engine, the DR125, which is no longer made.  Great little motorcycle.  Can carry two up.

Steve...........That really looks like what I want.  I bought a Etc New Century, that is electric, but you have to peddle it.  A lot more work than I want to do.  The wheels are small and it is not fun.  But this  eGo looks like the ticket.  Do you know anything about the company?  Ever ridden one? Let us know what you decide to do.  I wonder if you can get bike racks for just one bike.

They are licensable and street legal, but with a top speed of 23 MPH, I doubt you would want to literally take them on a highway. Maybe around a campground, or in a town center where traffic moves pretty slowly.
Certainly not on a major roadway.

If you examine that web site closely you will find, under accessories, a receiver hitch (2") carrier made to carry two eGOs.
No reason you couldn't carry just one.

Also explained on the web site is the fact that they are certified "street legal" by the Dept. of Trans. (DOT) although some states (Calif.) do not require licensing.
