Finding used (was Welcome mkcspuds!)

Hi Greg,

Thanks a bunch for the link! I've checked it out and see a couple of late models out there.

We're looking for 1996 or newer, on a Ford chassis. The 26 1/2 foot island bed or mid bath would be nice, 30 foot's a little large but we'd consider it, the 23 1/2 foot twin/king as the outside option.

Obviously buying used presents some challenges; I suspect getting pre-qual'd for the loan is the first step (won't be a problem), but how easy is it to buy one long distance? I know we'd most likely have to travel to look at one - would hate to get the tix purchased then find out the unit was sold. Can anyone who's done this comment?

Thanks!

Michelle

Hi Michelle, It won't be easy, but it can be done. If I remember correctly, we had one member that was on the East Coast, found a unit in Arizona on the RV Trader web site that morning, flew out and bought it that day! Perhaps she'll check in and let us know the details. When I bought mine, I had to drive about 250 miles to the LA area, not too bad, but a hassle just the same. You would have to let the seller know you're situation and try and get a promise that they would hold it for you. It can be done! Getting pre-approved is a must in your situation. Make sure you bring your pre-approval documentation. I'll keep my eyes open, now that I know what you're looking for. Good luck, and hang in there! Greg

I had great luck finding a used L.D. I found it on the internet very early in the morning and flew from San Diego to Las Vegas by noon, to purchase. As you know they go quickly, and I acted accordingly. I spoke to the seller long enough on the phone to develop a sense about his integrety, honesty and sincerity.
He promised to hold it for me and I believed him. Of course I felt like I didn't have a great barginning position, being a captive audience when I arrived, but it actually worked out that he took an offer $1700 under his asking price(which I thought was a good deal already!)After having it checked out and spending about 5 hours going over it,I proceeded to drive it home. The entire experience went extremely well and I have had no problems with the unit. It is a late 1995, rear couches, with 12,000 miles. I realize the age and mileage made a great difference in my comfort level in the purchase, although I think the original purchasers of these units tend to be more discrininating and quality conscious buyers, thereby, resulting in good allround folks to buy used units from down the road. Good luck in your hunting and I hope all goes as well as it did for me!

Thanks for the input - there's actually one I've seen on the Internet that sounds interesting. I'm hoping to convince the d.h. that we (or at least he) should go look at it (soon, before it sells), checkbook in hand. Which poses another question - did you have the $ wired to the seller or was your personal check accepted (I would assume the former since you drove it home!)

I agree with your comment about original purchasers - Lazy Daze appeals to the quality and safety-conscious folks who feel the wait is worth it, and those folks (and the ones who sought out used units) are some pretty darned nice people!
