Texas WiFi and Birds

I promised a report on the trial WiFi system at Choke Canyon State Park.  Based on my impression, it's a loss.  First there is no WiFi in the campground area.  You are supposed to come up to the gate area.
Second the one time I tried to find a signal (as we checked in), it wasn't working or at least my computer indicated no wireless network present.
Bottom line is that I didn't use it even during the free trial period, and certainly wouldn't pay for it.

The Choke Canyon Birding Festival was great on the other hand.  Not too many people (27) with three knowledgable and enthusastic guides and excellent birding.  We saw 64 species the 1st morning and about 110 by the second day (they didn't have the final count).  Everyone got to see most of the birds, often through high-quality spotting scopes set up by the guides as well as in our own binoculars.  I can highly recommend it, and they are planning the 4th annual festival for about this time next year.  They do it in the winter because this is the best time to see birds, both because of migration and less vegitation.  We were lucky with the weather as it did not rain despite forecasts and it was not too cold.  Last year both birds and people froze.
One interesting note was that a number of birds from Mexico that used to be rare there are becoming year-round residents.  They attribuite it to the global warming.  While people were excited to see a green jay two years ago when we were there, this year we drove through a flock of them on the park road, and the people regarded them as a pest.
