With regard to your former Saturn SL2, what specifically didn't

a Saturn seemed

want)?  How hard is the Honda to hook up compared to the Saturn?
Any difference?

The Saturn seemed like a logical choice to us, too.  It hooked up easily enough, requiring only the removal of one fuse, from under the hood, and towed very nicely.  Our complaint was with the ergonomics of the car.  The driver's and passenger's seats were low, difficult to adjust, and uncomfortable.  In addition, there were no grab bars, or passenger assist handles, which made it very difficult for us to get in and out.  For someone with no back problems, a long torso and long legs, and better than our flexibility, it would make a great toad.

None of these problems jumped out at us as we considered the car, initially.  We liked the ability to tow an automatic with little hassle, it was very lightweight (less than the CR-V), inexpensive, and had cruise control, which was a must for me.

2002 was the last model year for this particular Saturn.  I have no idea what they currently have available that can be towed.

Fortunately, the CR-V has turned out to be an execellent toad, with none of the ergonomic problems of the Saturn.

Forget the Escape, do not even go there, no way, no how. The only way an Escape can be towed is up on a trailer, completely off the ground. You can't even tow it on a dolly.

According to the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Motorhome Magazine's Dinghy Towing Guides, both the 2WD and 4WD Escape can be towed 4-down IF it has a manual transmission -- the automatic transmission cannot be towed 4-down.

In addition, Consumers Union's data (based on hundreds of thousands of auto owners) show that the CR-V is much less likely to require repairs than any Saturn model. Not that Saturns are *bad*...they are merely average in reliability, while the CR-V is well above average.

Andy, that has been our experience with the CR-V, as with the other Hondas we have owned, and our current Odyssey. (Wish I could tow THAT!)  At a curb weight of 4,615 lbs, that's not an option with the LD.

Well, as with most anything else, Toast, Bagels, Croissants, it's a matter of taste. Honda probably does't make anything less than quality vehicles but we just could not come to appreciate the appearance of the Element. It's the "different strokes" thing.
Had I known that I would own a Lazy Daze before I bought the Escape, I would now be the happy owner of a CR-V.
