On December 14th we picked up our new 26.5 MD from Lazy Daze. I just noticed last night that the refrigerator was running on propane. I ensured that the refer was in the auto mode and switched it back and forth a couple of times from propane to auto mode at the panel to try and get it to run on electricity. For some reason the refrigerator will not run on electricity. I have checked all the circuit breakers and made sure that the refrigerator is getting electricity at the plug. The refrigerator is getting power. When I shut the propane off at the tank the check light comes on at the refer panel. When we did the check-out at Lazy Daze the refrigerator switched back and forth between electricity and propane with no problems. Has anyone else had a problem with the refer? I am hoping that maybe there is an easy fix.
I will of course call Lazy Daze on Monday and report the problem.

Thanks for any help.

The 120 VAC heater may be burned out or have a poor connection. When switching from propane to electrical, the heat source, needed to operate the refrigerator, is changed from a propane flame to electrical resistance heating.
You need to check the electric heater for resistance; it should be around a 1/2 ohm. If the circuit is open, the heater needs replacement.
If this doesn't do it, the circuit board may be bad.
A good RV shop should be able to test it for you. If replacement is required, try to get a board from Dinosaur. They have a good reputation for high quality replacement electronic control boards.

Take it to the nearest Dometic authorized repair location.  Do NOT have anyone else fix it. LD is not responsible for the frig.

Ours died

Thanks Bob,
I will check out repair places tomorrow in the phone book. What a hassel, as with yours. We are doing our first trip this weekend and I do not want to have to deal with this.

Thanks Larry, I will check it out. I guess the best thing to do is to take it in to a service center as Bob suggested.

You should be able to call the Dometic 800 number and get a list of nearby Dometic authoritzed repair places. Also, I'd think the Dometic website has them.-

Terry,

I had the same problem right before we got ready to leave on our last trip. I will recommend that you check the main GFI breaker(in our 30 IB it is on the outlet under the cabinet over the stove) It had to be reset. That was the answer. I had called dometic & they told me where to find the fuses accessed in the outside panel which we checked prior to the gfi breaker.

Hope this might help.

Terry, I had the same problem with my 2004 26.5 MB that I picked up in October. The regfrigerator worked fine all the way home (Port Orchard, WA). I went camping at at a local State park in December and it would only run on propane. I checked the fuse in the back of the refrigerator and it was blown. I replaced the fuse and after 30 sec the second fuse blew. I took it to the local Dometic authorized repair facility and they told me it was a shorted heater. The heater was replaced the next day under warranty and the refrigerator works properly now.

You might want to talk with Dometic direct and possibly they can give you a quick fix.  Worth a try.
