Mexico trip

Hi Everyone! In about five weeks we will be heading south, from Whidbey Island Washington, for a short vacation in Mexico, crossing near El Paso.
Because it will still be winter, to avoid ice and snow, I thought we would just head south down the coast, to at least as far as Bakersfield CA. From there our route could be east, or further south. Any suggetions? We want to be routed through Peoria AZ for a spring training baseball game or two, then possibly a stop at Kartchner caverns SP.
Some questions. Where is the best place to obtain Mexico car insurance?

Also, on the way back, we might like to stop near LA to do some sightseeing and theme parks. But the thing is, we don't like driving a LD around the LA area, and we won't be towing a toad. Are there campgrounds near any public transportation? Is there such a thing as public transportation in So-cal? A day at Disneyland or a bus tour of Hollywood, or something like that is what we have in mind. If we had to drive to Disneyland, what time in the morning does the rush-hour traffic start thinning out?

Thank you in advance for any help someone might have.

Tom, if you come through Quartzsite, stop and say "hi."  We have room beside the house if you'd like to spend the night.  Would be great to see the 2 of you again!

Hi Linda & Earl If we do, we will! However, we could be in a small caravan, as four LDs from LDN will be making the trip, including Pete Reed,  the wagonmaster of LDN and his wife Dian. Our trip is not yet routed and we don't know how many or who will actually travel together yet. It will be fun.

Tom -

When you know your itinerary, let us know.  We'll be touring the SW then, but don't have a firm schedule.  It would be fun if we could meet you all somewhere.

If you are spending 2 weeks or more in Mex., then possibly a years policy would suit you, if not purchase for the time you are in Mex., if I'm staying in one place in Mex., I get coverage for the days drive down and a days coverage for the drive back to the US., if you have full coverage on your vehicles in the US, you may want to talk to your US insurance carrier to see if they will cover you in Mex., some carriers cover some 50 mi. inside Mex., 'this is only for collision coverage only', you have to get a seperate Mex. policy for libility, For short term Ins. check http://www.bajabound.com you can print out policy on your own computer

Chris gave you good links on mex insurance, we use Lewis and Lewis (the 3rd link on his list) and have been happy with them.  I picked them because of good reports from people who were unfortunate enough to have to use their insurance, happily we never have.  They have a good reputation for service.
