First trip recommendations

Well, we pick up our babydaze on 20 January.  Live in LA area and are looking for a first FUN place to take a trip on 21-23 Jan.  Just have the weekend.  Thinking about Lake Havasu and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for camping in that area or maybe a better location.  I looked at the database and nothing there.  We're looking for a place like Islander RV resort (saw this on RV Today).
We'll experiment with boondocking and backwoods parks later, when we get more accustomed to our new coach.

I see that the caravan club is having a camp-out 19-23 Jan and we might end up there.  Is this a good "first destination" or would the group suggest someplace else?  Thanks

I would heartily recommend joining the LD group though I don't know if they're parking with hook-ups. I THOUGHT I was a experienced rv'er until I started reading these posts. You will learn so much and be so warmly welcomed....Still learning Soncee. Ex-pat San Diegan
