CabDoor Warning January 07, 2005, 12:50:47 pm Yahoo Message Number: 48886This is about a safety issue that most folks with a Class 'C' motor home are unaware of. I discovered this unpleasant surprise by performing a simple task that I had done many times in a car without ever having a problem. Once I was underway and going about 40 miles per hour, I noticed that my driver's side cab door was not completely closed. I opened the door to slam it shut and that is when the unexpected happened. In a car you have to push the door open against the air stream moving past the car. In a Class 'C' motor home, the flat surface of the coach body directly behind the door causes the air stream to whip the door open. I was lucky that I did not lose hold of the door. I shared my experience with one of my 'Caravaner' buddies and he had a similar experience but a much higher speed. He said that he was fortunate to have been wearing his seat belt or he could have been yanked out of the seat. One wag thought that this might be a way to eliminate that sometimes irritating noise that comes from the vicinity of the passenger seat. Based on my experience, one should never open a door while the motor home is moving. All passengers need to be warned to never open a door while the motor home is moving. Always warn a new or occasional passenger or driver about this danger. Please share this information with other Class 'C' motor home owners as a simple unthinking act can have unexpected and tragic consequences.Terry Tanner 2001 RB #2779[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Maybe somebody should post this again next year to remind the not-yets. Also: if you're old-fashioned like we are, and still use paper maps. Don't open the window when the nav has maps unfolded! Sucks them right out...John
