Mini Thermal Cooker December 19, 2004, 09:25:58 pm Yahoo Message Number: 48067If you enjoy real (not instant) oatmeal in the morning, especially while RVing, here's an energy-efficient way to make it. I used our 16 oz. wide mouth Thermos, with a stainless steel liner. Just before going to bed, I preheated the Thermos by filling it with hot water, closing the lid, and leaving it for five minutes, while putting water on to boil. I then dumped out the hot water, added ½ cup of old fashioned oatmeal (I like Arrowhead Mills Organic Old Fashioned Oatmeal), a pinch of salt, some cinnamon, some chopped dried fruit, and boiling water to just one inch from the bottom of the lid. I buttoned it up and left it overnight. When I opened it in the morning, the oatmeal was perfectly cooked. This makes two nice servings. Unfortunately, my DH won't eat oatmeal, so I only need one serving. I plan to get a 10 oz. wide mouth Thermos, and try this with ¼ cup of oatmeal. Volume in a thermal cooker of any size is important to the efficiency of the cooking. Enjoy!Sharon N.
